The Indian and Afghan Workers and Cameleers of Western Australia. Such a sad history when you read about them experiencing major racial hostility, being used for their labour/expertise, sending money back home because they’re not allowed to bring their families to Australia, growing old and then going back to their home countries after their work contracts/business are no longer viable and they have no pension or fam to look after them. Like, f*ck, this is an evident trend amongst stories of working class Men of Colour from the 1800-1950′s who tried to work their way towards a better life in Australia but were just used and abused for their worth by colonies that wanted population and growth only on their terms. ‘Asiatic Alien’ woes are all over the archives, the nameless and forgotten want to be heard. The contemporary discussions about multiculturalism, diversity and skilled migrants coming in for cultural benefit - as a ‘new’ and ‘exciting’ thing - constantly ignores and erases our country’s past. Exploitation and dehumanising PoC is what the Australian government does without fail, heighten racist fear mongering, then reshape the cultural imaginary with no accountability. Never forget that Australia was built on the back of massacres, blackbirding, indentured labourers, slavery, stolen land, stolen generations and epistemicide. The colonial project lives on. African Daisies, Coolgardie

These were imported from South Africe many years ago and have colonised all parts of Australia. The colours are gaudy, bright and beautiful but unfortunately they crowd out native plants and affect Banksias in particular. They've been declared a weed and a pest in several states.
