Do your characters in Souls of Magic only have 1 magical ability or can they develop more? Does Maurice have any magic or spells (I may have forgotten it)?
Maurice have the magical ability to control an object’s trajectory in it’s own timeline for a minute, like stopping a glass from falling, but other than that no.
I haven’t gotten to the part in the story where I properly explain the magic (it’ll be in 1-2 chapters I think) but since I’m so lazy at updating I’m using this as an opportunity to go a bit more in depth with it (since I have no idea how long it will take me to actually get to the part in story).
The magic in Souls of Magic can be regarded as idividual superpowers and it’s called magic partly because the powers break the laws of physics and partly because humans barely understand anything about it. The only thing they know is that about 50% of the population has it and though it may appear to be genetic that is not always the case.
In this world half of the people are born with “magical energy”. When the child is between 6-8 years old the energy “settles” giving them one magical ability/power. What magic the person gets depends on their environment growing up. Like if it’s something they need in life, a habit, what they believe magic should look like and other similar situations. As an example: Jane liked to play board games when she was young and now her magic allows her to view the world like a huge board with her map. There are also outliers whos magic settels before the age of 6 but those cases are usually a result of survival instincts, a child with magical energy who is drowning may get magic that turns them into a fish or allows them to breathe in water. So no, there are no spells (unless someone specifically has a magic that settled on spells, but that is unusual).
For this reason people with magic mostly only has one ability. There are cases where they may use a magical artifact made by someone elses magical ability or having a curse/blessing that gives them some form of magic, but they are rare.
