“Poor woman, she has no idea what is happening to her.” You glanced at the bartender to see her looking at something behind you. You dared to look back and frowned when you saw a very small and petite woman getting ambushed by a couple of drunk and much older men.
You glared, seeing how scared she was, sensing she was not comfortable with what was going on. You’ve been in this situation before and you knew what it was like to be her. You needed to do something.
“Why don’t you stop it?” You asked the bartender.
“They aren’t breaking any of our rules. We have three rules here, no fighting, don’t get naked, and don’t get too drunk where you can’t stand but everyone breaks that last rule.” She said, cleaning some glasses.
“That’s bullshit.” You said, paying for your drink before getting up. You pulled on your jacket and walked over to the guys who were putting their hands all over the poor woman.
“Why don’t you come home with us?” One of the men asked, a smirk on his face.
“Please, just leave me alone.” She said, trying to get away from them.
“Hey, shitheads, she said leave her alone.” You said, glaring at them. You were a very tough woman. You grew up in different foster homes, always getting tossed around like you were a piece of meat between hungry wolves.
You didn’t have any friends and you didn’t want any. Most people were either fake or bitches, and you didn’t have any time for that. You were never adopted which was fine, but it made you realize that only you could to take care of yourself.
No one else wanted to.
So, you took matters into your own hands. You got into a lot of fights while you were growing up by standing up for those who didn’t have a voice. You fought a lot of people and always got heat for it. Mostly because you were always the one to hit first.
This was one of those times where you weren’t afraid to get a few broken bones. You could tell that even when drunk these men were strong, but it’s a good thing you were too. As a kid, you took karate to help yourself win fights against other people. You weren’t a black belt by any means, but you were trying to get there.
“What did you call us?” One of the men, probably the “leader” of the group said.
“You heard me. She said leave her alone and if you don’t, you’ll have me to answer to.” You said, offering her your hand, which she gratefully took. You pulled her towards you, but the leader grabbed her other arm causing her to wince.
“How about you let her go, walk away and we can pretend this didn’t happen. That would be the smart choice.” He said, threatening you with his eyes. You looked at the girl and she was sending you distress signals with hers.
You nodded slightly before grabbing his wrist and twisting it back. He didn’t expect that and he let go of her arm with a cry. That caused most, if not all, of the patrons at the bar to look up. You pulled the girl away and looked at her.
“Leave while you can,” She wasted no time in backing away. You pulled your fist back and gave the man a hard right hook, causing him to stumble back into a couple of tables. “That’s for harassing her.”
His friends took action and grabbed you but you kicked one of their legs out so he stumbled forward and you kneed him in the face. He cried out in pain, holding his now bloody nose. You were about to do even more damage but hands were grabbing you, pulling you away.
“Don’t EVER touch her again!” You yelled at the man who was glaring at you. You looked behind you to see the hardened face of one of the cutest police officer you know. You were notorious for getting arrested and every time you did, Officer Dean Winchester was there to do the deed.
You’ve spent so much time in the holding cells at his station, you knew most of the police officers there by their names, and even some of their personal lives, too.
“Great, of course you would be here.” You said to Dean as he nodded to his other police friends who were helping and looking at the men you tried to beat up. One of them was talking to the girl you saved and you looked at her, making eye contact.
She looked guilty which probably meant you were going to be charged with assault. Out of all the times you’ve been arrested, you’ve never been booked or had your mug shot taken because they’ve always let you go.
Dean pulled you outside and pushed you against the wall, pushing your feet apart with his. You knew the drill. You put your hands behind your head and interlaced your fingers to let him do his little pat down.
“Haven’t you touched me enough times, Dean? At this point, I’m expecting at least a date.” You joked, trying to lighten the mood a little. He was always so serious.
“That’s Officer Winchester to you.” After his hands roamed your whole body, he pulled your hands down from your head and stuck them behind your back, handcuffing you.
“You know, this isn’t usually how I use handcuffs.” You said with a smirk, giggling when he huffed in annoyance.
“This is your fourth arrest in two weeks, Y/N. Come on.” He brought you to his police car and placed you in the backseat, locking the doors after you were inside. You sighed and rolled your eyes as you watched him walk back into the bar. This was all routine for you.
A few moments later, he came out with all of his cop buddies and they got into their respective cars while Dean got behind the wheel of the one you were in. He didn’t say anything while he drove and you weren’t expecting him too.
When you got to the station, he helped you out of the car and walked you inside. Upon entering, you saw a lot of familiar faces watch you as Dean started to read you your rights.
“You have the right to remain silent and to refuse to answer questions. Anything you say, may be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future…” Dean droned on and on.
By this point, you knew it by heart.
“Jared, how’s the wife? Do you guys know the gender?” You asked a police officer as you walked past him. Dean was annoyed that you weren’t listening but he had to say it even though he knew you probably had it memorized.
“She’s doing good and yes, we found out we’re having a girl.” He said with a smile.
“Good for you! I’m so happy for you!” You said with a smile, stopping at Dean’s desk. He uncuffed you and you turned to him as he stopped talking.
“Empty your pockets.” He instructed. You decided not to say anything about it and did as you were told, putting your phone, wallet, some bobby pins, a movie stub, a napkin with a phone number on it, and a condom on his desk. Dean looked at the objects and he nodded, walking you over to the holding cell next to his desk.
Once he locked the door, you sat on the bench, pondering how this seems like home to you. How sad is that?
Dean walked over to his desk and sat down, looking though the things.
“Whose phone number is that?” Dean asked you.
“Some bar sleaze. Was going to have sex with him, hence the condom, but you just had to arrest me.” You said, laying on the bench.
“What is going on with you?” He asked, looking at you.
“You wouldn’t care anyways.” You muttered but he still heard.
“What does that mean? Of course I would care.” He said. You scoffed but decided not to say anything.
“You wouldn’t get it anyways.” You said just before the phone on his desk started ringing. You sighed and closed your eyes, thinking about the recent events that just happened before Dean came to pick you up.
“She did?” Dean asked, surprised. You looked over at him and frowned, wondering who he was talking to. “Really?... You know she’s going to end up back here, right?... Whatever, you’re the boss.” He hung up the phone and sighed, gathering your things before walking over to you.
You sat up and bit your lip when he unlocked the cell. You got up and walked to him, taking your things back when he offered them to you.
“You’re letting me go?” You asked, putting everything back in your pockets, but discarding the napkin.
“The girl you saved told us everything. The bartender didn’t press any charges for the disruptions and the guys were too drunk to remember anything so you’re free to go.”
“Great, I’ll see you again sometime this week.” You said, patting his chest.
“You know, I hope not. This has got to stop, Y/N. You’re better than this.” Dean said, making you turn your head as you walked.
“But I’m not, so take care, Dean,” You said, turning back around and walking to the door. “Jared, give my love to Alissa.” He smiled and nodded.
You left the station, wondering where to go next. You’ll be back here anyways so you never went too far out of town, in fear that you might be put in another jail with new officers you knew nothing about.
You went on about your life, landing in the cell again for a drunk and disorderly a few days later. This went on for a while, you doing petty things and getting yourself thrown in jail. Dean was always there to handcuff you and then to release you, making sure he always judged you on your life choices.
But where you going to go?
You didn’t have anyone to be with and it wasn’t like people were going to be friends with you once they heard you’d been arrested three times in one week. It was too late for you to make a difference and turn your life around.
It wasn’t until a week later when you got hit the hardest with your emotions. Everything was bubbling to the top and you wanted to get into more trouble… something where you would actually get a mug shot and be in real trouble.
Getting arrested made you feel alive, and feeling alive was great when all your life you’ve pretty much felt dead.
There was a local store you’d always gone to when you were a child. You would always talk to the cashier, Antonio, who has been there for over 15 years. Whenever you went with your foster family, you left them and talked to Antonio, who always listened to your problems and never judged you.
It was sad that you had a friend who was almost 30 years older than you, but he understood you.
And you wanted to visit him. You knew his schedule like the back of your hand so when you walked inside, he immediately spotted you.
“Y/N! It’s so good to see you! I hope you’re staying out of trouble.” He said as you walked to him.
“Ah, you know me. Dean says hello, by the way.” You said with a chuckle. He knew who Dean was based on what you kept telling him.
“Why do you always have to get into trouble?” Antonio asked, leaning against the counter.
“You know why, Tony. Let’s not talk about that, shall we?” You said, a tight smile on your features. He nodded and you looked up when you heard the bell of his store ring. You blood ran cold when you saw your very first Foster mom, Agatha, enter with a scared boy walking behind her.
The child seemed to be around ten, the exact age you were when you were with this nasty old bitch. You knew what she was doing. She never cared for her children. All she wanted was the money she got from the state because of the kids she had.
“Y/N, let it go.” Antonio said softly, already knowing what you were thinking.
“I can’t.” You whispered but you weren’t sure he heard you.
“Ah, Y/N, look at how big you’ve gotten.” The bitch said, walking up to you.
“I didn’t think you’d remember me. Because, why would you? All you care about is the money you get from the state.” You said, your eyes sliding to the boy who was biting his lip.
“Ah, I see you haven’t changed at all. Still without a family? What am I saying, of course you are. I heard you got arrested yet another time this month. I’m glad I gave you back.” Agatha said, turning on her heel to walk away.
“Always nice to see you too, Agatha.” You said with an eye roll.
“Come on, Charlie, we have shopping to do.” Agatha said, handing the child a list of all the things she needed.
“Yes, Headmistress.” He said, his head hung low. No, this wasn’t going to happen to another child. You’d been in his place before and you understood how ugly she could get.
“Oh, so you’re still having your children call you Headmistress? You don’t change, do you?” You said, making her and Charlie stop in their tracks.
“I see you haven’t changed.” She said, turning around.
“Oh, I have. I learned not to take orders from bitches like you. You were always the nasty bitch who didn’t give a fuck about anyone. Sorry kid, but it’s the truth.” You said and she narrowed her eyes.
“That is no way to speak to me, young lady.” You didn’t know how it happened, but you snapped. Maybe it was seeing her again, or what she was doing to this young boy, or the fact that she was still a foster parent, but you grabbed the nearest thing to you, which so happened to be a box of mac and cheese, and threw it at her head.
She anticipated everything since kids threw things at her all the time and so she ducked, easily dodging it.
“No, you cranky bitch. I can talk to you any way I please because I am not one of your puppets anymore. Charlie, you better go hang out somewhere else. She isn’t a nice lady.” You said, not looking at the kid.
“Now, now, Y/N, don’t make me call the police. I’m sure Dean would love to haul you back to prison where you belong.” She said, a small smirk on her face. You screamed at her as you felt your blood boiling. Out of all the foster moms you had, she was the worst.
You started throwing things. Not necessarily at her, but you were probably scaring poor Charlie. You started throwing curses at her, done with everyone’s bullshit. You saw an opportunity to get into real trouble. You hated doing this to Antonio but you needed to do this.
You started tipping over stands and boxes, making the things topple onto the floor. You didn’t break anything, but once the larger boxes began to fall, you scared the Evil Queen which is exactly what you wanted. You couldn’t hurt another person without a reason and you didn’t want to kill her, but scaring her did make you feel better.
But just like that night in the bar, you were being pulled backwards by familiar hands. You glared at her as Dean Winchester pulled you out of the store.
“Charlie, don’t let her do this to you. Fight back.” You said to him as you were pulled outside, causing him to stare at you with wide eyes. You didn’t know if he was scared of you or not but you didn’t have time to process it as Dean pushed you up against his cop car and began patting you down.
“I don’t have any weapons. I wasn’t going to hurt her.” You said, rolling your eyes when he handcuffed you.
“You’ve done a lot of things, but vandalism is kind of new to you.” He pushed you inside the cop car and you turned your head and watched as Antonio was talking to the woman, his eyes still staring at you. Dean pulled away, his sirens giving you a headache.
You hoped she pressed charges. You needed to be locked away. You were no good out in the world.
Dean pulled up to the station and helped you out, taking you inside and reading you your rights. The other cops sighed when they saw you but you didn’t care. You were taken to Dean’s desk and you took your things out of your pockets like usual but he didn’t put you at the holding cell.
He chained you to the bar on his desk. You sighed and sat down, rolling your eyes and refusing to meet his.
“Please, talk to me, Y/N. Why are you doing this?” Dean asked, looking at you. You refused to answer and he sighed, looking at the paperwork on his desk. There was a lot of shit he needed to do but he decided in this moment that you were more important than paperwork.
“Would it make you feel better if we were alone?” He asked. You looked up at him and searched his eyes for something but you didn’t know what it was.
“Come on, just take my mugshot. You’re not a therapist.” You said, leaning back in your chair.
“I can’t do anything until I know if they are pressing charges for ruining his store or threatening that woman.” Dean said.
“That woman deserved it, Dean. You had no idea what I went through when she was my foster mom.” You said, snapping at him and not thinking about what you were saying.
“Y/N, why do you get into so much trouble?” He asked in a soft voice. Upon hearing his voice, your dam broke and you let a few tears fall.
“You don’t know what it’s like to get pushed around. Always being treated like you’re less than everyone else to the point where you start believing the shit they tell you. You would never understand or else I wouldn’t be handcuffed to your desk right now.” You said, looking down.
You couldn’t say anything before you heard the jingle of keys as you felt Dean unlocking your wrists. You looked up at him as he took the handcuffs off you.
“I can try.”
“The only person who cares about me is Antonio and that’s only because I came to him as a child. I bet if I met him as who I am today, he would want nothing to do with me. Who would? I’m nothing and no one cares about me so getting into trouble is the only way I have to make people notice me. I hope he presses charges because maybe I can have a just a little bit of purpose in my life because if I’m not in jail, I may as well be dead.” You admitted, glad to get it off your chest.
The phone on his desk started ringing and you sighed, grabbing a tissue off the desk to wipe the tears and blow your nose before throwing it in the trash bin.
“This is Officer Winchester,” Dean said into the phone. He listened to the other person and you hoped it was the news you wanted to hear. “Fine, hold on. Y/N, phone is for you.”
You frowned and grabbed it, putting it to your ear.
“Y/N, darling, I’m not pressing charges.” Antonio said on the other line.
“But why?” You asked, getting a fresh wave of tears.
“Look, you’re a smart kid. You’re a good kid, and you’ve just been with the wrong crowd in life. You’re going to get your life together because you can’t keep doing this. You need to start doing good things.” He said and you refused to meet Dean’s eyes.
“I’m not good, Tony. I break what I touch and you know that.” You said, sighing deeply.
“I’m going to need help cleaning the store and it’s better than pressing charges for the mess you made. Put Dean back on the phone.” He said and you sighed, knowing he wasn’t going to argue. You handed Dean back his phone and he took it, talking with Tony for a few minutes before hanging up.
“Look at me, please.” Dean said. You sighed and looked up, meeting his eyes.
“I’m going to make you a proposal, alright? Just hear me out,” He said and when you nodded, he continued. “There is an excellent police academy I graduated from that I think you would be perfect for.”
“No, I am not going to become a dumb officer.” You said with a scoff.
“Listen to me Y/N. You’re smart. You’re a good fighter. I saw what your right hook did to that guy in the bar. You have potential and I think this school would be perfect for you. You would have no problem fitting in.” He said, taking a piece of paper and handing it to you.
You took it and looked it over. Would you really be a good police officer?
“Just think about it. But you can’t get into trouble this time. No more stealing, vandalism, or bar fights. You wanted to turn your life around, this is the way to do it.” He said, crossing his arms. You bit your lip and looked it over, eyeing the pen on his desk.
You quickly grabbed the pen, writing your information down on the form before you could talk yourself out of it.
Maybe this would be a good change for you. You had to start somewhere.
