(5k, rated T, one-shot) Summary:
“Commodus blames me for his death,” I said. “Why?” Meg asked. “Probably because I killed him.” “Ah.” Leo nodded sagely. “That would do it.” The Dark Prophecy, Page 134. OR In a miraculous error of the universe, the glowing boy turns–past the gathered crowd and all past that lavish courtyard, his arrow of a gaze flying straight and true to pierce perfectly Apollo’s. And then it is blue on gold, impossible, incredulous, and Apollo finds that he wishes not to look away or for this stolen moment to end. In the heart of Rome, there is a mortal, and he is golden. (Five scenes between Commodus and Apollo.) ToApril Day 29: Reeled Back
so the story behind this fic is i first read the Song of Achilles and Circe around the same time when the ToApril prompts came out, and my dumb ass of audacity (in no particular order) saw the prompts, remembered miller, remembered the copollo drowning scene, got inspired, and went “oh yeah i could do something like that bet”.
My audacity knows no bounds and i suffer for my ego every time lmaoooo. So unsurprisingly, thus began nearly four months of on and off suffering writing. Man, this mere baby of a fic fought me every single step of the way, but that's okay bc im still really proud of how it turned out lol.
(Also i would like it on the record that i named this fic BEFORE kpdh came out LMAO the title was not intentional i swear)
the goal of this fic was for the entire thing to read like a song. also was originally gonna take even longer to get this up but @starthornfromscratch's new copollo animatic inspired me so much that it lit a fire under my ass and kicked my head into the game lmao.
I’ve worked and reworked this little one-shot until I’ve finally managed to wrestle it into something manageable, and thus four months after the conclusion of ToApril and multiple instances of me bothering ppl to read my shit, I very proudly present to the masses, my copollo one-shot, golden. enjoy.
