It is a most witty idea, he thinks as he approaches, and one that worked quite successfully. The jovial sounds of the festivities escort him on his way towards the castle's main gate. He cannot help the light, fluttering glee in his chest -- the night promises to be unforgettable, filled with careless merriment, and Renly is resolute to enjoy it despite all unpleasant characters he might encounter.
He covers the final paces to the gate, several members of his Rainbow Guard marching proudly behind, and steps into the surprisingly well illuminated hall. Almost exuberant, he allows a smile to perch on his lips and rejoices when his name resounds across the gallery and faces turn to watch him. A decent while has passed since the formal beginning of the pageant -- Renly's penchant for memorable entrances is well known.
There's some gasps and some faces bathing in pallor, and now he is certain that his costume could not have been chosen better. It was not difficult to comprise either. Light, black veils, almost transparent, yet by no means unnoticeable shower from the crown atop his head, where they are hooked, on his shoulders and down his body. They pleat around his legs, but stop just short of his boots' heels. If there is one thing he enjoyed hearing about as a young boy, it was myths of lurking creatures only summonable by the darkest or the purest of magic. Shadow assassins are ones his teachers knew least about and it is this, precisely, which makes Renly most interested in them.
His garments are all black, fine and tightly fitted, with miniature white quartz stones sewn in here and there, but not everywhere, to create a soft radiance which captures the attention and leaves no room for anything other than awe. His shoulders and chest are encased in polished to a golden gleam armor. The Baratheon stag graces the center. Renly even allowed for his face to be painted, lightly, of course, in coal shades that emphasize his cheekbones and nose. His beard does the same for his jawline.
The eyes are not turning away. Renly beams wider.
