SAE J1939 Programmable Data Traffic Simulator For Generating Diesel Engine Signals (PGNs)

The jCOM.J1939 device will simulate any PGN, including Transport Protocol messages (TP - Messages longer than eight bytes) and it will also allow the programming of request responses.

For this project, we will use an existing and proven hardware plus the extension to an existing device firmware and the associated Windows programming software, which both are under current development.

Controller Area Network (CAN Bus) - Physical Layer And Bus Topology

The ISO/OSI Reference Model specifies seven levels starting with the physical connection up to the actual user application, i.e., the Application Layer.

The standard CAN Bus implementation neglects the connection between the Data Link Layer and the Application Layer to save on relevant memory resources by reducing the overhead and, as a result, increasing performance as required for embedded solutions with restricted resources.

After all, all layers above the Data Link Layer require supplementary software resources (higher layer protocols).

SAE J1939 Digital Annex Available As DBC File

The SAE J1939 Digital Annex (J1939DA), as offered by SAE, is now available through CSS Electronics in form of a DBC File.

The J1939 Digital Annex, launched in August 2013, offers key SAE J1939 technical data in an Electronic Spreadsheet that can be quickly explored, sorted, and modified to another format. J1939DA includes all SPNs (parameters), PGNs (messages), and other J1939 data published earlier in the SAE J1939 top level document. J1939DA also contains all of the SLOTs, Manufacturer ID Codes, NAME Functions, and Preferred Addresses.

Graphic Touch Rugged HMI With SAE J1939 Module

With the optional CiX-CAN module, the panel supports the SAE J1939, CANopen, and Classical CAN protocols. CiX-CAN is an iX HMI module that is designed to mount on the back of the panel. It allows communication from the panel to devices using a CAN interface. The module supports two independent CAN ports that are both capable of running a separate protocol.
