The British native Daphne laureola (spurge laurel, laurel-leaved daphne, olive-spurge, wood laurel, copse laurel) can become an invasive weed outside it’s normal range and all parts of the plant are poisonous. The species will tolerate shade and can be found in hedgerows, the edge of woodlands and in garden borders. This small, evergreen shrub has neatly overlapping deep green leaves and lime-green, honeyed scented flowers with a fragrance that deepens in the afternoon and at dusk.
