I'm just gonna blabber about Copycat, my Marvel S/I, for a second-
Copycat is a mutant, and his mutant powers are the reason a lot of things happen to him.
Now, Copycat's mutant powers have nothing to do with his shapeshifting, or his cat-like abilities, or his fire abilities. His emotion-based and necromancy abilities come from the Soul Stone, save for his reanimation, spiritual awareness, and soul-stealing abilities, which come from his parentage, being that he's the son of 'Mistress Death', the literal embodiment of death itself in Marvel's canon.
So... what mutant power does Copycat have? I mean, that's all of his abilities, right? Wrong.
Copycat has a mutant power that was passed from his grandfather - Lee - who was a much more obvious mutant. Lee had mutant abilities involving luck, which got him into and out of a lot of trouble, basically making him an asshole version of Bugs Bunny.
Mainly, Lee was part of Hydra, and ended up captured by the American government. During this, he realized he was on the wrong side of the war, and seeing no way out of his predicament, Lee prayed to anyone who would listen that he'd do anything to get a second chance.
Lee's mutant powers caused Mistress Death to hear him and take him up on his offer. Since she 'coincidentally' began feeling lonely and hollow in her Death realm's solitude, but not wanting a romantic relationship. Thus, Mistress Death asked for one of his grandchildren to take as her own child, seeing as Lee already had sons and then could not have more kids (another product of the luck power). Lee agreed, and thus, Copycat.
This mutant luck diluted a little with Copycat's father, to the point Jack didn't even know he had mutant powers. (Lee's luck abilities also caused that) Then, Jack had Copycat, and Copycat's mutant power with luck was also just as easily overlook-able, resulting in Copycat getting run over and meeting Death in the Death realm, gaining his other powers.
...In gaining his other powers, though, Copycat's mutant luck ability got boosted, thus allowing Copycat to escape Mistress Death and return to the living world, meeting Loki. 'Coincidentally', meeting Loki at just the right opportune time to bond with them and gain Loki's trust enough to actually have a meaningful relationship with him.
Blake's ability with luck is baked into his character, and it's the only reason he survives most situations.
Pure, generational, mutant-grade dumb luck.
