The term "competencies" is clue that you're talking to someone who buys into Jay Adam's nouthetic counseling. But look at the list:
Know how to present the gospel of Christ without confusion
Know how to handle common and crisis situations
Know how to help a camper handle a sin issue biblically
Know how to get beyond the "hands" (actions) to the "heart" (thinking and desires)
Know that all sin ultimately comes from a lack of belief in the character of God
Know how to fit in as a camp designed to support and help the local church
Know how to interact with young people in an appropriate
manner
#5 is the one that gets me. It's wrong from every angle.
Let's start at the end. "Lack of belief in the character of God"? Seriously? Even the demons believe, folks, and tremble.
Let's explore the opposite, however. Let's say I wholly believe in the character of God (whatever that means) with every part of me. Does that mean I am now .... without sin? Perfect?
I know they would say no to that, but that's not what their statement says.
