WHO WON? YOU DECIDED
Of Games & Gamers
Last night we (meaning my gaming group) discussed games at length, the games we played, the games we only played once or twice and the games we had but never played. I put forth the motion that we can Pirates of the Spanish Main for now and all my players agreed to do so. Also wanted to gauge where my players heads were at with genres they were in the mode for. One of my players, Darryl, is currently playing Sunday evenings and the group is strictly fantasy: Dungeons and Dragons 3.5/Pathfinder and Warhammer Fantasy Role Play. So, he suggested none of those games at the moment. My other player, Peyton, will be starting up with her own group on Tuesday evenings at college and she doesn't know what they will be playing; she suggest to stay away from those games as well for now. So we chatted about games we had and never played also games that would make excellent long term campaign and we got to talking sci-fiction; like Traveller, Star Wars, etc., which than got me thinking about an rpg a friend of mine had created. I went to look for it on my shelf and couldn't find it. Which got me thinking that maybe I packed it away and after when my players had left the table, I went into the backroom to go through a few boxes of old campaigns, adventures that I had written in my wild and crazy youth. I found Corefire at the bottom of a box of homebrewed Advanced Dungeons & Dragons modules. I dusted it off and began thumbing through it and as I did unlocking memories of good times.
Back in '92 a friend of mine created a role playing game in the same vein as Traveller. He called it Corefire and the premise was that man had visited and colonized a world 12 light years away.
Imagine a war zone as well as corporations warred over the land, minerals and oil. It was a neat little concept and he printed off a few copies and handed them out to his friends to play. I ran a few sessions and then gave him feedback on it. The mechanics simple and the setting was interesting as well. Then I forgot about it.
The other day as I was looking through some boxes in the back room I had stumbled upon Corefire and memories began to flood back. So, now here I sit this morning writing up some notes and an adventure idea or two.
