#CoreTime (at Sint Maarten)
This is the second iteration to my music video “Feel Amazing,” post critique.
1. Concepts> In 100 words/4 sentences, tell us how the video additions changed/added meaning or layers to your audio remix? Did you simply “describe” the audio with video or do you feel that your video choices added depth? (FYI, you were required to shoot for the later… ;)….). Simply, did you do a TRUE remix of simply mash up “things” that existed in your audio remix?
My video additions added depth to my audio remix because of the way I layered everything. I did not just describe the audio, rather I used highly abstracted layers in order to achieve the implied symbolism of my work because of the smoke symbolizing the foggy view that we get them, and the several distortions that I added to show how distorted everything is. In addition to this, my remix is a true remix because I took several “things” and used them for my video; however, I changed their meaning and context in order to make them my own. This allowed for me to add a lot of depth because of the creative freedom that it gave me.
2. How did you construct/compose/structure all the parts of your video? In other words, how did you synch you video to your audio? What was the over all “vibe” you were going for?
I synched my video to my audio by going in and finding the “peaks” in the waveform and matching them up. I carefully chose what images and videos to include so to get the vibe that I was going for, which was a creepy, almost surrealist mood.
3. Following up on the above, what EDITING PACE/TIMING/STRATAGIES did you apply when considering the over all “vibe” of your audio remix?
The editing and pacing and timing strategies that I used to get my vibe was by using sharp contrasts between color and black and white, and not only this but by heavily contrasting quick jump cuts to slow videos as well, and also using slow video during fast parts of my remix to amplify the tone of my work.
4. Briefly, where and how (and to what effect conceptually or formally) did you apply COLOR CORRECTIONS? How did you manipulate or change video clips or pictures? Choose 2-3 clips or generally where you used theses to discuss.
I applied many color corrections to my remix. A few specifically are the two smoke/ink color shots. I did this by using the hue and saturation tool to quickly change their colors to give it a more strobe-like and disorienting feel.
5. Briefly, where (and why, to what “effect”?) did you apply After Effects EFFECTS & PRESETS and filters? Or> If you used mostly “raw” (i.e. unchanged or modified) video or pictures, give us a good reason why you did not “manipulate” with the video clips?
I used keying a lot, for example in one of the smoke shots to disorient the viewer, and I also used the liquefy/blur/smear tool on the smoke to further abstract my video.
6. Briefly discuss the successful elements of your work (both in form and content). What parts are working well? (You can base these thoughts on the feedback received at the critique)
The successful elements of my work in my opinion were the keying, the effective use of jump cuts, and making it seem somewhat cryptic.
7. Briefly discuss the elements that could be better in your work. List the things you need to improve/fix/change/work on to improve the work? (You can base these thoughts on the feedback received at the critique)
I could make my video better by making it to where I build up the narrative of the smoke more, and also including more celebrities further along in the video in order to make the meaning of my work shine through better. I could also improve my video by syncing the cuts up better with the beat of the music.

This is my audio track before improvements.
