We want to start with a really dope smash by Georgia r&b band , ATL. In 2004 ATL released their debut and unfortunately unique album called ATL Project (available via iTunes)a wonderful example of genuine and very good r&b! The album included many important productions from Jazze Pha to Mario “Yellow Man” Winans, from R.Kelly to B.Cox. We choose the impressive beat of the single called It’s Us featuring r&b songstress Ciara and produced by Bryan-Michael Cox. Let’s Vibe!!!!!!!!!!
The next artist is a Jermaine Dupri protegè and his music as himself says is “soul with a little bit of R&B, with a little bit of rock and roll and hip hop in there…”… The name of this artist is Brandon Hines and in 2009 he released his EP called Weather from which we recommend ya the single Cuttin You Off.
There are so many artists in the black music scene that starting as songwriter to turning into singers, for example: Adonis Shropshire, James Fauntleroy,Sean Garrett (also producer) and Ne-Yo (who penned the r&b certified gold hit by Mario Barrett, Let Me Love You) to name a few!!!! The ambitious project is produced by many masterful producers like: Pete Rock,DJ Premier,Havoc,Rico Love and the homie Salaam Remi that produced the dope track Henny!
L.A singer and dancer Marques Houston released in 2005 his sophomore and best album called Naked for Interscope Records. Thanks also the precious collabo with talented-cool team-producer Cornaboyz, the album got good reviews for compelling tracks like: All Beacause Of You, I Wasn’t Ready and Naked… We spin the remix version by producer Cory Bold and featuring rapper Mike Jones.
New Edition is a r&b group that earned considerable notoriety in the end of 70′s with tracks like: Candy Girl,Can You Stand The Rain. After the snatch in 1997 they released in 2004 One Love under Bad Boy label. Here you are the seductive track Hot 2 Nite produced by Ryan Leslie! You can breath something innovative comparing to their old style (New Jack Swing).
PJ Morton is a rising neo-soul/r&b artist and also Maroon 5 keyboardist! The man got talent , this is an undeniably fact but we have to admit that his signature with YMCMB hip hop label did not convince us! The reason is evident: for us PJ got the tipical talent that can make a lot of good stuff embracing neo-soul quality music but his skills maybe would be wasted under the mainstream and commercial music recorded from major like Young Money! We explain our point of view with a exhaustive example: try to listen to PJ Morton before he signed YMCMB on the track called No Ordinary Love and then compare it listening the tune called Lover with Lil Wayne… in both cases he shows us his pure talent but you can find more quality on the first one!!
