I NEED you guys to see this right now. This is my favorite sculpture/work of physical art and it’s a crime that more people don’t know about it.

Carroña (English, Carrion)

This thing was absolutely GORGEOUS in person and it's so fgkfgindf radical because look at it!!!! The bloody disemboweled corpse of beauty!!! Holy shit!! I adore this sosossoo much and I love intentional destruction of art and aaaaaaaa

This is a work done by Spanish artist Javier Pérez in 2011, and it's currently being held in the Corning Museum of Glass (NY). CMoG's artwork page (go read it, it has more info on Pérez's other creations!) describes the piece:

"This sculpture consists of an elaborate chandelier whose many parts were blown and tooled of transparent blood-red glass, assembled and hung, then intentionally dropped. A flock of taxidermied crows perches on the fallen carcass, and shards dangle from their mouths. The installation is meant to evoke opportunistic birds gobbling carrion by the side of the road, a metaphor for the gradual disappearance of Murano’s traditional glass industry."

Heading off to Bath/Corning, NY for the Wineglass Marathon this weekend. A nearby race, it's grown big over the years, some pretty good runners expected this year.

Haven't raced much over the summer, mostly distance training. Felt good in the tune-up half marathon a few weeks ago, though can't say how I actually ran it due to the course mix up. But things are trending up, hopefully it continues Sunday. Getting set.

Day 4

Double Post! Hi Pals!

Today was a lot better than yesterday. Haylee left this morning, which was sad. I enjoyed her company here. But there’s another wwoofer here now, Savannah. 

Margie and I started the day by feeding all the animals, and then we moved on to gardening. Margie was preoccupied with housework. She had to clean all the sheets from the spare bedroom because her uncle is stopping in for a few days, unexpectedly. And she had to ready things for Savannah as well, as she was supposed to arrive on Wednesday, but was a little ahead of schedule. So while she was busy with all of that, she had me do some gardening. 

I began with raking and hoeing 5 plant beds, then planting a total of 48 potatoes. It was the first sunny day since I’ve been here and I was definitely sweating and reapplying sunscreen. (Spoiler alert: I still got sunburned.) Post-potatoes, I moved on to the meadow and planted all kinds of seeds. Next I arranged some flowers in pots, planted some herbs, and tipped raspberry bushes. 

I finished up around 3:30 and was pretty tired. I took a little nap, met Savannah (and her dog, Irene,) and ate dinner. In a little bit, Haley (a different one), is coming to teach us how to brush the donkeys and the horses. And if any of you don’t know, I’m pretty afraid of horses, even if they’re miniature. So that should be fun.
