Oh boy everyone's alive and loud about it
My chickens + other people's chickens + someone else's turkey at the school barn!
(YAY a fun excuse to play with excel!)
Look how well my beautiful baby chicks grew up! They were so cute at first, then awkward, and then just dirty all the time. Not so cute then. and man they hurt when they peck. ouch.
I never thought butchering would be easy, but gee whillakers I am very bad at it. getting clean looking cuts at all the joints and stuff? not good. Guess I gotta keep practicing in order to get better. *notices my egg laying hens running to the far corner of their run* oops. Y’all are safe! I’ll get a new batch of cornish cross, don’t worry.
all in all, the chickens weighed less than we were hoping for. However, that is likely because of how cautious we were when it came to feeding them because of all the issues they can have when overfed. I think we were just a tad too restrained there. The end product is beautiful though! There’s enough meat to feed the two of us for the next 2-3 months at least.
Goblin chose to do this. She weighs less than 500gm and chose to get squashed by a chicken 10 to 20 times her size whilst dustbathing, every single day.
Chance looks like a completely different chicken, compared to when she first came home. She looks so healthy now!
It hurt pretty diddly darned bad for this massive chicken to peck at my hand full-speed and with the force of what felt like 100 chickens, but it was worth it to spend some bonding time with her.
