i know its been said a lot at this point but im gonna say it again anyway. if youre getting into fibre arts, your first project can be whatever you want it to be. thats not a joke.

you are going to enjoy the process a lot more if its something you like and want to make. i started my knitting journey making squares for a blanket that i never finished because i was not enjoying it. my real excitement was a chunky cardigan pattern i had seen that i wanted to make.

i made a ton of mistakes. i had to frog a lot. the first time i knitted a sleeve on that cardigan, i had to frog the whole thing bc i realised as i tried it on that the decreases were noticeable on that pattern and so my sleeve looked upside down.

to this day, that cardigan isnt perfect, but im so fond of it because i tried and i made something i was genuinely excited about. i live knitting because i allowed myself to do what i wanted and was passionate about. you dont need to be good at something to do it.
