This is rambly and disorganized, please forgive me-- btw cw for discussion of sexual assault--

Something something how both Lyctor ascensions in Gideon the Ninth are easily read as allegories for sexual assault but in, like, sorta opposite directions.

Like it's pretty difficult to miss the metaphor in Naberius Tern being violently penetrated from behind and forced into a noncon soul union. That's very surface-level literary analysis there. And Gideon essentially coercing Harrow into eating her soul against her will is easy to read into that framework, too, even though Gideon doesn't understand just how much of a shitty thing that is to do to her.

But then, depending on how much we buy into the (very credible, imo) theory that Corona, not Ianthe, killed Naberius, we can complicate the first scenario with the possibility that Ianthe was not a fully willing participant. Of course this doesn't absolve Ianthe of being a perpetrator -- the noncon soul union was all her doing, after all, and I don't know that we can entirely dismiss the possibility that Corona was acting on her orders-- but it does raise some questions.

Oh, and going back to Gideon forcing Lysis on Harrow-- something something this has apparently happened at least twice before--to Mercy and Augustine. Who were both deeply traumatized by it. But couldn't bring themselves to blame their respective cavs for it, instead displacing their anger onto the other's cav, and subsequently onto the other themselves. Which I'm sure someone more eloquent than me can unpack in regards to people who've been victimized in some way by their loved ones, latching onto excuses as to why it is not their loved one's fault.

And yet, despite those isolated cases of a cav violating their necro's consent, cavs are the ones who are more routinely and systemically exploited.

Anyway, the point is--idk the point. It is 10:30 pm and my brain has just about checked out for the night. But I did want to say that "who even cares about Babs" is becoming an increasingly horrifying line to me for reasons I hope I've made obvious.

I thought it was very simple. We’re twins, Corona is my heart. She is the beauty, and I am the wit (sorry, Darling). I’ve worked my whole life for her to shine, and I wouldn’t trade a moment of it. One day we’ll be together again. There is nothing in the world I wouldn’t do to keep her safe.

tlt necromancers as horse breeds(/what kind of horses they’d have)

Cavalier version

Judith Deuteros: pura raza española(pre horse) this is a horse breed that’s really old, usually very highly trained and historically used as war horses. In my experience also kind of hotheaded

Ianthe Tridentarius: Oldenburg horse. I would’ve made her a warmblood trotter but I couldn’t for the life of me find photos or a specific breed to represent her, so she gets this sporthorse instead. These horses are usually really good at anything they do.

Coronabeth tridentarius: american draft. A strong horse breed, usually not doing competitive ridden work(I felt like a draft horse would best represent corona)

Isaac tettares: New forest pony. A really agile and reliable pony breed, semi-wild but trainable and brave. I personally really love this breed of ponies.

Abigail Pent: Knabstrubber. A really fun horse, used in various sports and as circus horses. These horses originate from a singular spanish mare that was eventually sold to denmark during napoleons era. I was originally gonna make her an ottb but I already had a thoroughbred in the first post.

Palamedes Sextus: shetland pony. Ok hear me out on this one, a very intelligent and stubborn pony that’s often underestimated but can do literally anything if trained for it. These ponies can and will commit various crimes if they get bored to enrich themselves. This breed for palamedes popped in my brain as more of a what kind of horse they would have instead of would be.

Dulcinea Septimus: Connemara pony. A very kind breed of ponies, can and will commit little acts of mischievery just because. I once saw someone characterise this breed as needing proof of college degree to own and that’s pretty accurate. Specificly a grey one(all grey horses are vulnerable to a type of cancer and most likely will get it)

Silas Octakiseron: arabian horse. I dunno what about the eight makes me immediately go ”desert horses!” But something does. Anyway, a very hotheaded horse breed, agile fast and very light.

Harrowhark Nonagesimus: Friesian horse OR a dartmoor pony. Friesians are really elegant and showy horses often used for carriages and dressage. Dartmoors are another one of britain’s native breeds, popular for many sports. They’re also rather showy and agile.
