I draw book covers for freelance all the time. I feel pretty lucky to do so, and wanted to create one with all my free will and spare time, to make just for me. Well, and for you lot as well. But mainly, for me.

I will be drawing book 2 and book 3 as well. And potentalially have prints of them later this year.

this took me a month Rereading Gideon made me wanna design all of the Cav/Necromancer pairings from the Canaan house!

Magnus Quinn was a fun little guy who just wanted to love his wife and cook good food and they fucking killed him for it. Like, he's a terrible sword fighter (admittedly we only see him fight Gideon who is a badass but she had a rapier at the time and still easily kicked his ass), he was only there because his wife was an awesome historian and necromancer and she wanted to study the First House. My man literally just wanted to be a house husband and he got murdered by a myriad old super necromancer because his wife was doing history too well.

gideon and harrow both separately are like 'hah. get a load of ole WIFELOVER over here!' at magnus and abigail and then proceed to wifelover in ways about twelve times as cosmically fucked up

You know I didn’t really realize at first but the fifth house falls into one of my favourite troupes which is kindhearted , good intentioned, manipulator. 

I love a character that can be so nice and so gentle and so caring that you don’t realize how much they are influencing you and it isn’t an act. They genuinely like and care for you. 

I’m sure Magnus looked at Gideon and saw a guarded girl who needed some people to be nice to her. He was probably also thinking about the political boon it would be to have an in with the Ninth House. 

There’s a reason why Magnus was chosen to be Abigail’s cavalier. It’s not because he is a good swordsmen, it’s because the Fifth is a house that deals in politics and he’s a master at being likeable. The fifth battles in smiles and gold and niceties and Magnus Quinn is the best cavalier for that job. So genuine and caring that even the audience forgets he has motivations except being the funny man that makes you feel safe.
