"Fight for me, little knight. Fight for me because you have no choice. Because the alternative is much worse."
Ever heaved, the sword much too heavy for his weak arms, the armor much too heavy for his weak body. He had been a servant, not a knight. He cooked, cleaned, and dressed the prince- the most physically taxing thing he did was calm the horses in the stables, and that was very rarely.
"Please don't," Ever whimpered. The man, Apollo, only smirked as he gave the signal. The gates rose in the opposite side of the arena, and Ever could feel the sweat dripping from his forehead. It was no wonder Prince Daven would always be glistening, armor was so, so heavy. Which reminded Ever that at least Prince Daven had gotten away, had been able to flee into the night. And this punishment of his was one he was willing to take.
The beast stepped out and Ever shivered, his blood going cold causing his poor heart to freeze. It was already bloody, teeth dripping and eyes fiery with anger. It stood feet over Ever, broader than any man, but held a horrid man-like structure to its body. As it stepped closer its body twisted and convulsed, it hissing and growling as it approached. Ever felt tears falling, knowing he would die a horrible, agonizing death. But, yes, the alternative was worse. The alternative being torture for the rest of his natural life. At least this pain would end. Ever closed his eyes, trying to decide if it was even worth it to try to fight. To give these men, these god mad beasts, a show, or to just allow his body to be ripped apart and at least hold them back from any entertainment. Ever closed his eyes, deciding the latter.
He winced as he heard the beast come to him, and couldn't help but to peek when the monster fell silent. Upon opening his eyes though, he saw the thing readying a hand. Ever had barely enough time to cover his face with his arms before it swung down with its might, its daggers slicing open the skin of Ever's arms. Ever flew back from the force, landing on the ground with a scream of pain, blood already pouring from the wound. Ever's head spun as he looked at the injury, his arms crimson. He had never done well with the sight of blood, and this was the most he had ever seen since the incident.
The beast approached once more, snarling as it stepped, its arms dragging against the ground. Ever cried, sobbed. He didn't want to die, but he especially didn't want to die this way. But the alternative to this death was so much worse, that this was the only escape. If he could bare this until he was killed, everything would be okay. He would be reincarnated, perhaps as a free animal, and be peaceful. He just had to bare this for a little while longer.
As the monster raised a hand again, Ever rolled onto his stomach and covered the back of his head with his hands, blood dripping into pools beside him. It slashed at him once more, this time the armor providing some protection. Its nails screamed across the armor, curls of metal rising from the nails digging into it. The armor would provide useless if the best struck the same spot. So now it was simply a running game. How long could Ever run to stay alive?
