send ☁️ for a childhood memory.
❝ oh, starlight? ❞ he curls up in the cabinet, giggling quietly. hearing merle call out for him just makes his escapades even funnier. ❝ where is my little starlight? ❞
oh, how he wants to laugh louder, but he refuses to give his location away. this star kid isn't being found tonight! he shoves another chocolate malt ball into his mouth, wondering how many he can fit in at once. he could try it again, but merle said he could hurt himself if he did, which means no more eating chocolate like this again. he'll be good about it... just this once.
❝ oh, what terrible news, fiddleson, ❞ merle melodramatically cries, addressing a ninji that is, in all actuality, not present at the time. ❝ my poor little starlight has gone away again. if he doesn't come back again, i don't know if i will ever smile again. ❞
starlight still chortles to himself, ignoring the tiny pang of guilt in his heart. he crunches onto another chocolate ball, some of the substance melted, caked onto his rosy cheeks. it's all over his hand, evidence of a very serious chocolate crime.
❝ i fear i may... ❞ is that a sniff? oh. oh no. his heart drops. ❝ why, i fear i may... cry! oh, boo hoo... ❞ oh NO. ❝ i miss him... my little star...! ❞
— out bursts a messy star child from the cabinet, squealing with despair. ❝ i'm sorry, mister merle! i'm sorry! don't cry, i'm sorry!! ❞
the betrayal in his stunned expression when he realizes merle was never crying is palpable. in fact, the darned shaman is smiling under his cloak. ah, yes. it works every time.
