I really enjoyed the Iron Lung movie, enough to see it twice so I’m gonna talk about some cool things I thought about it! :D

Some spoilers, obviously. It won’t be terribly in depth, but go watch the film if you can before looking at any.

These’ll just be my overall thoughts here. I’ll prolly be rotating the movie in my head for a bit though lol.

I think that this film deserves a lot of praise, not just for proving that films without studio backing can work, but because of how much thought was put into it and how deliberate every aspect of it felt.

Honestly I was really skeptical about how Markiplier would make a whole film based of a game where you just…take pictures then get a png jumpscare basically; cool lore aside, I was blown away with how they made this thing! I didn’t feel like I was just watching Markiplier playing himself, and I think he and the other actors did a really good job. I’m also glad stuff wasn’t just spoonfed to the viewers with a monologue or something, and that you were just kinda showed stuff going on and characters acting without an explanation to something obvious

I think that the character development of (not quite) “selfish” desire to live versus “selfless” (this is greater than you or me) was a very cool thing just in general. Through the whole film the convict/Simon was faced with the challenge to survive in a suddenly very unsurvivable world; he consistently asked the question “and then I’m free?,” as well as “I just want to live,” being a core part of him in the beginning. This isn’t a bad trait necessarily, but in the context of the new world there are new priorities. It is after the challenges he faces that he comes to the mind set that the others (assumed COI/Consolidators) that he realizes that “this is greater than me.”

The background story, the whole thing with Eden, the COI or consolidators, and filament station really started to flesh out this world from what we got in the game. It made sense and it didn’t feel like this was coming out of no where. I guess I’m just saying it felt plausible for the world, because of course there would be a group trying to put everything together, and of course there’d be one that would be more nihilistic.

As for the pacing of the story, I think that was much slower in comparison to other films, and while this may have bored some viewers, I found it excellent for immersion. Slow isn’t bad! It gave the audience time to really feel the isolation of the submarine and see all the little details in such a small set. Even then I still wanted to watch again because I felt I missed something! I also felt it kept my attention through the use of interesting camera angles as well as the fairly frequent use of close up and extreme close up shots, you got to see so much emotion in so much detail!

I think the film was very good for what it is: an indie horror based off a video game that had very interesting lore that wasn’t super in depth during the game. I don’t think this is going to be a film for everyone, and some of the things I think were good might be flaws in other people’s eyes, I also am not something of a film buff so I’ll have a hard time making an in depth critique. I don’t even really want to critique the film all that much, I personally enjoyed it!

They’re going to build that healthy, loving, TRUSTING relationship, just like Tyler said. It’s so needed after all the angst and pain from the past and throughout last season.

Through this friendship, it will open so many doors for them; doors for their FUTURE together. 

It’ll be so beautiful watching them build this relationship, while being so in love with one another. ❤️
