Finishing Mal...

Welcome back to the second part of the Making of Mal!

Last time I have shown you the accessories and the underskirt, now let’s move on to...

- The Dress

The dress itself has a lot of different materials and it wasn’t easy pointing out everything... In the end for this dress I used: silk shantung in dark purple and fucsia, purple satin lining, purple sturdy cotton (for the inner layer of the corset), plastic bones, fake leather in purple and green and black elastic lace. Details and decorations were made with black and gunmetal hotfix rhinestones and a black fabric marker for the burnt edges (and of course I burned the fabric for real!)

The first thing I did was making the base corset (as all my corset it is made from one layer of lining, one layer of sturdy cotton with boning channels and the outher layer - see my Aurora entries about the making of) In the picture above you can see the outher shantung layer with the lace overlay, I was trying to figure out the placement and where to cut the eccess - as my lace pattern was really different from the original one -

After placing the lace finally I was able to play with the hotfix applicator *_* I was waiting sooo long to finally use it! (But in the end I decided to use my flat iron because it was wayyyy faster!!)

Then I moved to the fake leather straps on the side and the belt

Nothing too much to say, they are really easy after drawing the right shape. The side ones are attached to the corset, the belt closes on the back with velchro fastener.

Then I moved to the skirts, the purple one and the fucsia one. They are really just two half-circle skirts in various lenghts with all the teared hem. I traced the irregoular shapes on the skirts and then give them a rough cut with my scissor, then to achieve the burnt look I burned the edges for real! In the end* I used a black fabric marker to make the black shade left from the fire on the fabric.

After making the two skirts I joined them with the corset and I hand sewn the lace around the top part of the purple one. I added a third layer of purple shantung only on the front between the two skirts because I wasn’t very happy with the final look.

And this is the (short) dress almost completed! After placing the dress over the tulle petticoat I decided to add also come scraps of purple shantung here and there to add more volume over the tulle and to fill the empy spaces.

After the last fitting I decided to add also gunmetal rhinestones along with the black ones to add more shiny points to the dress and it was a winning move! I think you can already see the difference in the before-after picures, they gave to the dress a very nice finish!!

And this is the final look of the completed dress! (with and without hoop underskirt, I can’t decide which I like best)

Nell’ultimo post vi ho fatto vedere gli accessori e la sottogonna, ora passiamo a...

- Il Vestito

Il vestito in se è composto da tanti diversi materiali e non è stato facile recuperarli tutti nelle giuste gradazioni di viola! Si sa, il viola non è per niente un colore facile e soprattutto è difficilissimo che resti viola se fotografato (Senza sembrare blu o fucsia!) Per questo abito ho deciso di usare: shantung di seta in vioal scuro e fucsia, fodera di raso viola, cotone pesante viola (come struttura per il bustino), stecche di plastica, ecopelle viola e verde e pizzo floreale elasticizzato nero. Per decorarlo ho usato cristalli termoadesivi neri e grigio scuro e un pennarello per tessuti neri per i bordi bruciati (ma ovviamente ho anche bruciato veramente il tessuto!)

Come prima cosa sono partita dal corsetto di base (che come tutti i miei corsetti è realizzato con uno strato di fodera, uno strato di cotone pesante per dare struttura su cui sono cuciti i canali per le stecche e lo strato esterno - potete vedere gli strati maggiormente nel dettaglio sui mie post su Aurora) Nell’immagine qui in alto potete vedere lo strato esterno di shantug su cui stavo sovrapponendo il pizzo floreale per decidere il corretto piazzamento (visto che il mio pizzo era moooolto diverso da quello originale)

Dop oaver deciso la posizione e aver ritagliato il pizzo ho finalmente potuto giocare un pò con il mio applicatore per cristalli termoadesivi!!  *_* Era da una vita che non vedevo l’ora di usarlo e finalmente l’ho fatto! (Anche se poi alla fine ho preferito usare il ferro da stiro per attaccare le pietre perche si faceva decisamente mooooolto prima!!) 

Dopo i cristalli ho realizzato le fasce in ecopelle laterali e la cintura.

Non c’è motlo da dire su questo, la parte più “complicata” è stata disegnare la forma corretta sul cartamodello, poi ho cucito quelle laterali direttamente sul bustino, ho attaccato la cintura sulle cuciture laterali e dietro si chiude con un pezzo di velcro. 

Poi sono passata alle gonne, quella viola e quella fucsia. Le ho realizzate facendo due gonne a metà ruota con orli di varie lunghezze: ho disegnato gli orli frastagliati direttamente sulla stoffa e dopo un primo taglio approssimativo con le forbici ho veramente bruciato tutti i margini per avere un vero look bruciato! Poi con un pennarello per tessuti neri ho sottolineato tutta la parte che sarebbe dovuta essere il tessuto bruciato dal fuoco.

Dopo aver realizzato le due gonne e averle attaccare al corsetto, all’altezza della vita bassa, ho deciso di aggiungere un terzo strato di shantung viola fra questi due perchè l’aspetto finale non mi convinceva moltissimo.

Ed ecco il vestito (corto) quasi completo! Dopo averlo messo sopra la sottognna di tulle ho deciso di aggiungere altri ritagli di shantung fucsia qua e la per dare maggior volume e coprire gli spazi vuoti.

Ed ecco l’abito finalmente completo! (fotografato con e senza sottogonna a cerchi perchè non riesco a decidere come mi paice di più) Come forse riuscite a vedere nelle foto, dopo l’ultimo fitting con la ragazza ho deciso di aggiungere anche degli strass grigio scuri oltre a quelli neri perchè non mi sembrava ci fossero abbastanza punti luce sull’abito, e sicuramente è stata una mossa vincente! Se vedete le foto del prima-dopo la differenza è notevole!!

Ed ecco la festeggiata che prova il suo abito durante l’ultimo fitting (come vedete qui gli strass grigi non ci sono ancora)
