Somebody pointed out on here that when Eddie and Venom are watching the telenovela, Eddie’s hands are on his tummy, and watching the scene in HD, it’s true! I didn’t pay attention to that before. But yes, he has one hand on his tummy, and then both. It’s likely a total coincidence and Tom Hardy didn’t mean to put any meaning on it, and we’re all reaching lmao BUT it could have been a little detail to add more meaning to the scene so the Venom comic fans’ minds would really go there. So we would think about the pregnancy/Sleeper arc! I mean! Hear me out. The telenovela showing a scene revealing a hidden pregnancy?? Eddie and Venom’s conversation about keeping secrets, and Eddie’s hand is on his tummy to drive the point home even more. I mean, it could totally most likely be a coincidence, but it could totally also be on purpose. lol
I mean, just with the choice of that telenovela scene, which is something that actually !!happened!! between Eddie and the symbiote in the comic books, the symbiote keeping it secret it was going to spawn a new baby and Eddie knowing the symbiote was hiding something, and finding out very dramatically (when they’re about to give birth. It’s all very dramatic). Hello?! And the convo about keeping secrets? Of course we would make a connection there just with that. So I think there’s a real possibility they meant for us to connect that moment to that iconic comic book situation between them.
Ok I know I’ve totally posted about this before. But I think I convinced myself that the scene was no doubt an easter egg for us and so I’m posting again. lmao This is of course ALL speculation and one’s interpretation etc so you don’t have to take me seriously here or even agree. Though I think it’s very reasonable to make a connection between this moment and the iconic pregnancy/Sleeper arc.
What do you think? I think this scene was, at least partly, an easter egg for the fans to connect the dots, even if they don’t do anything else with it (aside from the Spider-man thing, that is lol). They could have chosen any other telenovela scene, but chose that one. Hidden pregnancy is a classic plot in telenovelas (take it from this latina whose grandma watched a LOT of telenovelas and I’m pretty sure this plot was in pretty much every one of them), but there are a bunch of other classic telenovela tropes about keeping secrets, like the maid of a rich family being in reality the real inheritor of the fortune of the family she works for (very Cinderella, I know haha), I’m pretty sure I saw that trope a couple of times. There’s also that plot about the wife of a rich guy who doesn’t really love her and is truly in love with a lower class girl, faking a pregnancy with a pillow or something so he has to stay with her. Pretty sure that one happened in Juana la Virgen. Or maybe I am remembering wrong. But I’ve definitely seen that one. lol
I just think it’s too much to just be coincidence.
But yeah, Eddie’s hand on his stomach likely doesn’t mean they were hinting at anything. But what if????
What I’m trying to say here is that they totally read the Costa run and they were totally hinting at the pregnancy arc here. I have no doubt. Ok move along.
