WIP caique mask. This doesn’t look like much, but it was a good few hours work! Parrots have a palette-like thing in their top bill that guards the nostril holes in the beak and the sides of it connect to soft connecting tissue at the sides of the beak.
I’ve sculpted the palette base & once dry/sanded I’m envisioning covering it with a stretch fabric. The pointy edges will be attached to side strips of stretch fabric/elastic between the top and bottom jaws, so they will pull with the fabric, plus it’s part of the mask hinging setup. I’m really hoping this plan works out
2:30am. 7.5h till ComicCon. 7h till the bus I was planning to take. I still have to hem almost every part of my costume and sew buttons on. I'm on the verge of tears.
hey arts n crafts + cosplay tumblr! want to give me advice about dyeing/custom repainting shoes?
I've just bought a pair of second-hand white/very light grey leather (probably synth leather) Vans, and I want to repaint them to be a bright green for a cosplay I'm working on right now. and I'd love to know any tips tricks advice or recommendations y'all might have for pulling this off and making it look good and last long-term!! I've done a very small amount of research on custom painting shoes like this already (the equivalent of a couple of google searches and about 3 youtube videos really), and it seems like Angelus leather dyes/paints are the one product that keeps popping up, so I'm heavily considering getting some of those to try out for this?
if anyone has any other recommendations, I'd love to hear them!! :D
I especially would love to learn how to prep the shoes before beginning to paint/dye them; since I did purchase them second-hand, I'd like to clean them well before starting (although they're in excellent condition already and have minimal wear on them! just a bit of dirt around the soles and I'd like to wipe them down with something antibacterial for hygiene), and make sure any sealers that could sabotage my paint/dye job are off before I get started!
just to let you know, I'm not gonna be as active this next little while because I am busy building my boy's Mando costume. I can post pictures of the build if anyone's interested.

This weekend going to visit Starscream and Soundwave at HQ. *packs medical Kit* Soundwave needs medical treatment... again... (cosplay construction XD ) On that note... Where did I put my high grade...
Learning unusual talents for the sake of cool costume builds is a whole other level sometimes.
If you ever make the mistake of thinking that my family is normal, please remember that my father is currently texting me about how he's 3D printing Beskar'Gam (Mandalorian Armour) for everyone in our family, while fully knowing that I'm in class right now. And he started 3D printing stuff yesterday because he got distracted from building Beskar'Gam by hand in the garage, rebuilt his friend's broken 3D printer he had given us, and started printing dice for D&D.
