Bit of an interesting idea for Ladybug and Chat Noir’s costumes post-swap

Okay, so while I’m not a fan of the *execution* of the concept to the extent that it didn’t really showcase an *equal* degree of struggle when it came to each hero using the other’s powers and understanding their role in battle, I did have an interesting idea regarding symbolism in the show going forward. Essentially, I’ve always imagined in my personal AU that Ladybug and Chat Noir would have their costumes change twice during the original conflict with Hawkmoth, and the aftermath of the kwami swap would be the first instance of this, with Cat Noir gaining gold and green elements on his suit to resemble Lady Noire’s appearance, whereas Ladybug’s suit would develop a more armoured design akin to Mister Bug’s, having a more even distribution of red and black while still retaining the ladybug design theme. I feel like this could serve as physical reflection of how swapping Miraculous (in this scenario a two-week long venture instructed by Master Fu) has allowed Marinette and Adrien to properly understand one another and recognise the value in each other’s contributions as heroes, thereby growing closer as a result now that they’ve been in each other’s shoes. This would also help to hopefully give the swap a bit more meaning, especially since it was the first time in the series that *anyone else* had wielded the Ladybug or Black Cat Miraculous.

(If you’re wondering what prompts the second design change… I’m not entirely certain. I’m imagining it happening either after they return after being briefly retired for the first few episodes of Season 4 [Alya/Scarabella and Félix/Cat Walker take their place] or after they’ve unlocked their adult powers and are left the only two heroes in Paris after Monarch steals the other fifteen Miraculous in the Season 4 finale).

Bette’s Costume Evolution

this is the first costume Bette Kane ever wore and she did it as Bat-Girl. i find it charming and very cute

The Evolution of Gamora’s costumes

#1 - Gamora’s original costume was netted with several emblems of skulls; presumably to get across the idea that she was the deadliest woman in the universe. She was the last surviving member of her race; exterminated by the Universal Church of Truth (later retconned to the Badoon). This costume was worn up until her absorption into the soul gem and during this time period.

#2 - Gamora joins the united front against Annihilus’s Annihilation Wave, desperate to regain her reputation as the most dangerous woman in the universe. Her attire at this time is reminiscent of barbarians; bringing the illusion of people from all backgrounds and personality types uniting in the war against Annihilus.

#3 - Following the wars against Annihilus and Ultron’s Phalanx, the Guardians of the Galaxy are formed. Her previous costume is given red trim to fit in line with the teams uniform.

#4 - With the announcement of the movie, the comic was relaunched after a hiatus. The costume for Gamora, as with Star-Lord, was inspired by trends of the time, such as the Mass Effect games. Out was the skimpy barbarian garb and in was technology based battle armour.

#5 - During the Black Vortex crossover with the X-Men, Gamora submitted to the Black Vortex, giving her a massive boost in power. Her skin became black and cosmic looking and her outfit was similar to her Annihilation costume.

#6 - Eventually the powers of the Black Vortex faded and Gamora’s skin faded back to it’s original colour. She continued to wear the costume she was cosmically given for a while afterwards.

#7 - During Civil War 2, the Guardians became stranded on Earth. Gamora learned that Thanos was imprisoned here at that time so began a mission to hunt him down. Her outfit at this time changed to a purple costume, with a similar cloak to her Annihilation and Black Vortex looks, but the rest a bit more in line with the movie Gamora.

#8 - GOTG relaunched once again, with the Guardians finding their way back into space. Gamora changed outfits once again; straddling a line between the movie costume and an almost sporty-combat look.

The Evolution of Beast’s costumes (and evolutions)

PART 1 (of 2)

#1 Beast’s original costume was the same as the rest of the X-Men’s uniform. Classic yellow and black/blue (depending on the artist, but also because of printing limitations of the time). Where the other members of the team wore boots and gloves, Hank did not, as part of his mutation gave him huge hands and feet, so exposing these gave him better use of his astonishing agility. 

#2 The X-Men eventually got a chance to express themselves and break away from the uniformed look. Hank chose a red and blue costume, similar in design to his original, but with a different colour and pattern.

#3 Hank eventually left the X-Men for a while, and during the period of time he worked as a scientist for Brand Corporation, he consumed a formula that caused him to further mutate and become a grey furry beast with pointed ears, bigger muscles and canine teeth. He gained even more strength and agility. The grey fur turned blue after a short while (pesky printing issues again!) His hair was quite short at the time and he wore trunks with this look. His first tenure in the Avengers took place while he was in his blue furry look.

#4 When Jean Grey was discovered alive after the events of the Dark Phoenix Saga, Hank joined the original X-Men in a team known as X-Factor. While attempting to help somebody discover a mutant cure to help a mute child, Hank tests the formula on himself and reverts temporarily back to human form, however a later battle with the Infectia causes him to mutate again. During his time in X-Factor, Hank wore (during human form and Beast time periods) a full bodied brown/red costume with a giant yellow X covering the front, similar to that the other members of X-Factor wore (albeit in a different, individual colour scheme).

#5 This is the iconic look that most people will recognise, one that Beast held for many years and appeared on the 90s X-Men cartoon. Dark blue trunks, mainly exposed blue fur, with longer hair than his original mutated look.

#6 For a very short while, the X-Men were captives of the Shi’ar empire; during this time, Hank wore a yellow and white full bodied costume (even with boots and gloves!) 

#7 Hank later joined Storm’s X-Treme X-Men (it was the 90s, everything was ~EXTREME~!) As you would expect, the costume was very pouch heavy, with sunglasses and tight, long shorts.

#8 Unlucky Hank later underwent a secondary mutation; which caused him to become more feline in appearance. In the real world, the X-Men movies were a big deal, and as such the costumes in the comic books changed to be a little more real world. Grant Morrison’s New X-Men wore matching leather jackets with a giant yellow X across the body. Hank also wore black pants, that may or may not have been jeans, and for the 2nd time ever, boots.

#9 After a fantastic run on X-Men, Grant Morrison handed the reigns to Josh Whedon, whose X-Men’s goal was to Astonish. That meant new, individualised costumes again; Hanks costume was shaped almost like an X itself, and consisted of long shorts, that went right up to just above his abdomen. He wore wrist gauntlets and let his blur fur flow elsewhere.

#10 When Cyclops established the sunken Asteroid M (that’s us! :D) as a mutant Utopia, Hank took more of a science role on the island. He changed his gauntlets to gold, expanded his shorts to just above his ankle, and wore a vest. The costume was heavy on trim and detail, and kept the giant yellow X, which has been recurring in Hank’s costumes throughout his history...
