I don’t even know how to explain how this video perfectly captures the essence of Charles and Max’s relationship. Charles, after YEARS of PR training, has become the ideal driver, the media’s golden boy. He smiles through every little game, every challenge, perfectly polite. But the Charles from the karting days, the one who would LITERALY shove his rival off the track after the finish line, even if it meant disqualifying them both just because he could, yeah, that Charles is never really gone.

And this Charles asks Max if he wants to help, because he knows. He knows Max will say yes to whatever he asks, would do for him what he no longer dares to do.

And then there’s Max. Max, PR nightmare, who holds his own press conferences just to say the FIA is shit and that he’s probably going to die soon. Max who couldn’t care less about the media, but absolutely cares about Charles. Max who blatantly cheats at a silly ball game on camera, just because making Charles laugh matters more.

And of course, Charles laughs. It’s an unwrapped birthday present, really.

Max gets his reward: Charles’s bright eyes and that laughter that makes the whole world worth it.
