Inspired by Juan Sánchez Cotán

One of my all time fave artists is Juan Sánchez Cotán, a strange, Spanish, still life painter from the 16th Century.  Where the heck does this fruit exist?! His paintings are so mysterious and silent. They seem so simple.

The other morning I tried to photograph my typical cigarette breakfast. But still life isn’t as easy as Cotán makes it.

The mono-print is a really old one from a couple of years back, its pretty beat up now. (see greasy tack stains :-/ ) I think this is a slightly more successful pastiché. Capturing the trippy falling fruit.

I got in the mood to draw my baby boy today after finding some of my original character designs for him. I had played around a little with some different Sith tattoo designs too, they’ll be far more important later in his story...

For anyone who doesn’t know him, this is my Jedi OC, Cotan. He becomes a Knight near the end of the Clone Wars and then resorts to turning to the Dark Side to survive. He goes through a big journey of self-discovery along the way.

This is my Jebi OC, Cotan. This is his appearance during The Clone Wars as a Padawan and Knight, and it changes later on throughout his life (quite significantly actually…) When I find my old art of him, I’ll be sharing that as well, so stay tuned! I know I made this with a Doll Creator, don’t shame me!
