We found what I believe is a figeater beetle on our thyme! Sacramento valley, CA. We were stunned by how iridescent it was.
Can anyone confirm that this is a figeater beetle and not something else?
I can definitely confirm it's a figeater. Love these dudes :)
@saltiestseasailor and I rescued this little one from sea water the other day. 🌊🪲
Cotinis mutabilis, também conhecido como besouro comedor de figo (também besouro verde da fruta ou besouro do figo ), é um membro da família dos besouros escaravelhos.

Cotinis mutabilis, the green fig beetle.
Found dead on my patio in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
Found this lovely green friend while visiting San Diego - any chance of an ID? I'm not sure they were doing so hot but I didn't want to bother them too much.
It's a figeater! Adult beetles don't live particularly long, so it may have already mated and is at the end of its natural life. And that's okay I'll bet it lived a nice beetle life :)
