Contrary to what’s suggested by the amount of content I make for certain relationships, Nikola’s closest partner is Vephar. Their bond started well before their marriage, confessions of a lack of devotion after countless half-hearted sermons. The light in the Lamb’s eyes long since snuffed out, the bloodshed brought by their hands moved forward only by the threats hissed by the god they no longer wished to serve. It felt… nice to be able to speak so freely of such things to an equally unfaithful follower.

Their bond is as much a blessing as it is a curse. Decades into their marriage, an additional spouse was taken. The lethally jealous type, as it turned out. Nikola searched frantically for the two when they heard a fight had broken out. They could not reach Vephar in time. They never forgave themself for her death, especially after they saw the fear in her eyes every time another spouse neared her. Nikola was distant after that. As much as they yearn for her company, they cannot bear the thought of her being heart over their affection for her again
