I keep seeing your niche art which is super cool! I'm noticing some are called Gods and Demons and I was wondering what the lore for that is! Also is this based on a playthrough in any way?

thank you! some of it is based off of playthroughs, some of it was made up outside of niche. to be completely honest with you, i have more hours thinking about nichelings than i do actually playing the game LOL

gods and demons are pretty much the "two sides" of the "supernatural forces" coin. gods are the force of "good" and demons are the force of "evil", this is very summarized and theres much more nuance than that, but thats basically what you need to know.

gods are more powerful than demons, and while demons can die, gods cant. for complicated reasons that would take too long to explain, the gods dont kill the demons because theyre afraid to go down there. (which is why they kind of "coexist" in the first place)

some older gods were created with the rest of the universe, but most of them were created from mortal nichelings. demons didnt start existing until after hell became ... well, hell, and were created from mortals as well. every god/demon has their own story for how they became that way but again, that'd take too long to explain ...

juniper, a martian starchaser looking for work. travels with her buddy dogwood in a small spacecraft called the grasshopper. (id recommend reading dogwood's post first because it gives important context to what youre reading next)

juniper and dogwood were born on mars, but were both kidnapped from their families by a centaur-trafficking ring, and grew up together as they were trained for hard labour. juniper spent more time around humans than dogwood, and developed more human-like expressions than the rest of her peers. despite this, she is very invested in appearing as friendly as possible, and can adapt to a conversation with foreign centaurs. she treats it like learning a language, and can switch between who she's talking to, to appear more friendly. she loves talking to new people and meeting new aliens.

you might notice juniper is a little more colourful in her clothing choices than dogwood. the organization trafficking them wasnt treating them like complete prisoners, as they were allowed personal items and occasional holidays, but they were strict about what was allowed, and more importantly, who was allowed to get privelages. dogwood often got in trouble, and lost personal items several times in his life. he eventually stopped getting items altogether, because he knew he'd end up losing them. juniper never had this problem, as she was quite friendly with everyone and never acted out. she never felt a need to fear for her items, she never had them taken away. dogwood never resented her, but instead worked with her to get out of the organization, because her good reputation made it that much easier to get away with trouble.

quick disclaimer: this, maybe obviously but i want to be clear anyways lol, is not set in the rtts universe. things are different/inaccurate here

this is basically set in the future from rtts i guess? centaurs are more commonly found in space (space travel has become more convenient/personal, infrastructure on other planets has been improved for centaurs, etc) and theyre most commonly found on mars. martian centaurs have adopted a lot of human behaviours and attributes, including their clothing, technology, and expressions. you can tell a centaur is martian because it smiles with its teeth.

dogwood and juniper were born on mars, but were both kidnapped from their families by a centaur-trafficking ring, and grew up together as they were trained for hard labour. while dogwood was raised around centaurs, he was raised by humans, and adopted a weird mix of mannerisms. he generally behaves centaur-like, but likes to smile and laugh with his mouth, which definitely freaks out foreign centaurs when they visit a job site. his expression is a typical "neutral" expression for centaurs, but he intends to look grumpy in the eyes of humans. it doesnt work for his centaur peers, but most humans stay out of his way when he keeps that face.

deities can retire if their title becomes obsolete, they are seceded by a new deity, or they simply dont want to do their job anymore. they technically have power, and can be worshipped by mortals, but generally cant do much. bunnil is an example of a goddess who just didnt want to work anymore. her title is kind of split now, as there are multiple deities related to multiple fauna.
