Cotterpin is Go!
Something about Wembley that I find really fascinating (and that I think plays a big part in kicking off the character development he has throughout the show) is how he'll put up with a lot of crap or go along with things others are doing, even if he knows it's wrong (like just letting others walk all over him), Until it's someone Other than him who is getting mistreated. Like I feel like there's So many examples of this, and it really shows off two aspects of his character, 1. His low self-esteem, and 2. His strong sense of justice. Like you've got him standing up for Cotterpin in the ep A Tune For Two, despite usually being Super conflict avoidant, because he doesn't care about himself feeling uncomfortable confronting everyone, it's not about him, it's about his friend being excluded and mistreated, and he's gonna tell everyone that that's Not Right. Then there's him standing up to Ma Gorg in the ep Believe It Or Not, to defend Skenfrith when she says he's a monster, because that's his friend and he Is Not a monster, and he's gonna tell her that she's Wrong, because she doesn't Know Skenfrith. And the ep Space Frog Follies even includes this a bit too I would say, because Wembley releases the frog back into Outer Space, even though he's worried he might upset Gobo by doing that, because it's just the Right thing to do. That frog needs to be were its Supposed to be so it can be happy, and Wembley Cares about that. There's also Wembley helping Junior Gorg in the ep The Gorg Who Would Be King. Like despite Everything Junior has done to Wembley and the rest of the Fraggles, Wembley still convinces the others that they need to help him, because he Understands that Junior is just a kid and that he's in a hard situation, and it wouldn't be Right to leave Junior to deal with it himself. Like Wembley may get pushed around a lot, but he knows what's right and when it counts he's going to stand his ground no matter what. And him helping/standing up for others really shows so well how much his confidence grows over the course of the show, and like I said at the start of the post I feel like him growing more sure helping others really helped him to become more sure of himself in general and get to a much better place with his self-esteem. Idk it just brings me so much joy thinking about it..And like I feel like Wembley's character really displays how extending a bit of kindness and understanding to those around you can change lives for the better 🥹
