11/1-03 Ruang Ujian
Pagi-pagi buta. 7.30 WIB
Ujian baru dimulai.
Jam menunjukkan pukul 9.09 WIB
Bapak di depan mulai kasak kusuk batuk-batuk ngetuk-ngetuk kejeduk-kejeduk ampe ngutuk-ngutuk he..he... memperingatkan murid-murid yang sedang gelisah tak menentu ampe mendesah-desah karena resah ampe keluar aer ludah mengintip contekan. Biasa... udah jam genting.
Jam menunjukkan pukul 9.14 WIB

Children of The Wild Ones (Part Two) || Chandra & Michael
Everyone froze when they walked in, though she expected no less. The chorus of voices dimmed into a hush murmur, then slowly devolved into a whisper until only the crickets outside could be heard. Neither she, nor Malcolm, buckled under the weight of the eyes that had fixated on them as they had made their way towards the counters; heads held high while their aura filled the space so dangerously that it threatened to implode the wood and stone that made up her youngest's tavern. She could hear the boards groan with her presence, feel it bending as she filled it with her scent... Mouths hung open. Gazes that had once been filled with cheery, drunken happiness had glazed into sweet admiration.
"Can you let Michael know his family is here to see 'im, please," Malcolm asked, taking the reigns when an odd little Vampire stepped forward from behind the bar. Without word, the young man did as he was told and drifted down in to the hallway.
Chandra looked around them, smiling and nodding her head to say hello at the patrons who gawked, beside themselves. She had gone through this before -- be it over her attire, or the powerful Elder strength that exuded from every pore in her body. Undead children loved to stare, picking up on what mortals simply could not.
As the Queen craned her neck, looking around her eldest son's shoulder when she heard the beating of footsteps, she caught sight of Michael at last. And her smile rose like the sun.
_____
"What are you doing here?" "Are you not happy to see us?" "No, it's not that, I just... would have liked the chance to prepare for this visit." Michael sunk into his seat, looking up at the pair as though he were seeing ghosts. It had not been long ago since he and Emery were able to leave England and return to Athoria, yet even still, seeing them felt strange and out of place. Perhaps it was the sparkling contrast between the mundane confines of Thirst, battling with the pristine image of royal attire; these vibrant reds, golds, and rich browns this place rarely ever saw. Night Haven was a cesspool of mediocre living -- though humble all the same. Ill fitting for the royals of London.
"Are you not prepared, Michael?" Chandra asked, finding a seat near the fireplace, but she continued before he could speak. "Regardless, you have nothing to worry about. We don't plan to stay in Night Haven long; we will be staying at the manor, instead."
"Cole knew you were coming?" "Yes, is that a problem?"
An eyebrow twitched at the challenge in his mother's voice, and it forced him to bite his lip. "No," he replied flatly, the tips of his fingers fiddling with the grain of the chair's arm. "Of course not."
"Good. Malcolm," she grinned, turning to the eldest who'd been snooping around the room. He stopped when she called him, instantly putting down a quill he'd found, and giving her his whole attention. "Malcolm, give Michael the gift we brought him, please." The blonde nodded, and pulled from his jacket a small, oblong box. He handed it to his brother, who held it in his lap, glancing between the two.
"What is this?" "Open it and see," Malcolm sang, nudging Michael's shoulder.
Slender pale fingers gripped either side of the wooden present. The lid gave way with a subtle pop sound, and instantly the study filled with the smell of lavender. The box was laced with a bed of lavender, on top of which sat a metal key. "It's silver," Chandra said before Michael went to reach for it. "It was crafted by your grandfather, Abrigo, and I remember Babanel having it... I'm not sure where it goes to, but I found it in the library and I knew you should have it. Perhaps you will figure it out."
"Thanks," he said, and put the lid to the box back on, sitting it on the small circular table beside the chair. He wanted to express his thanks for the gift far more than a simple word, but since she was right in front of him, there were other, more pressing matters he might as well admit to. "Chandra, I need to ask you something, and I'm going to need you to be honest." The Elder shifted in his seat until he sat on its edge, leaning his elbow on his knees and looking into her eyes.
"What is it, Michael?"
He breathed out of habit, steadying his suddenly shaky hands to find the confidence to blurt the words out.
"Is this about the dragon," she asked. His hazel eyes widened briefly, and he shook his head.
"It's about a woman named Emerald. I want to know who she is to me."
The aura of the room changed immediately; slipping into this uncomfortable demeanor that hung between all three of them. It didn't go unnoticed by Michael, but he refused to mention it. He had asked her for honesty, and it was the only thing he would accept -- uncomfortable or not.
Chandra's eyes averted his with a slight tilt of her head as she mulled over the name that stung at her heart. "Emerald," she repeated, "I haven't heard that name in a long time." At least, not from his mouth. How Michael had been able to shred through such a powerful glamour placed upon him eluded her, but it mattered little. "She was a Gengral princess, Michael, and our families were close once. You likely met her when they had visited your father for a short time." The lie poured from her lips like honey -- consumed with a sweetness that went undetected, completely veiled. "They have since been disgraced, denounced, and Emerald has become a traitor among the kingdoms. It is for your betterment that you stay away from her."
"Why was she disgraced?"
"Why does it concern you?" Chandra's voice raised, bleeding with the bitterness she felt at having to entertain this conversation at all.
"You have no hold, Michael, no authority in this situation. As much as you would like the matter to concern you, it does not." The Queen stood, and motioned for Malcolm to follower her.
"I'm going to visit my grandson, and then leave for the manor. I believe Collette will be throwing a celebration in my honor, and I expect you to be there. It would do you some good."
Children of The Wild Ones (Part One) || Chandra & Michael
She could smell them the closer they were.
Traveling up the rugged mountain terrain, she could smell Michael and Emery's scent vibrating in the air, electrifying it like a storm in the midnight. The conjoined aroma overloaded her sensory, filling her with giddiness and nerves that sat strangely well in the pit of her stomach. Territory marked by Striga blood, by the lineage of past Kings and Queens, by the demonic bond of Man and Beast. Oh, how she missed it; how her body buzzed with excitement to have it back in her life, even if momentary. To be in submerged in the wild throws of what felt like home again.
She had fought so hard to reclaim her family. She had taken a position she knew was not rightly her own for the sake of reforging broken ties, and it was not without its costs. But to have it back, even in such a tiresome way, was more than fulfilling. It was everything she had ever hoped for.
Her eyes lit up, meeting the stars through the small window as the carriage rocked and swayed up the pathways. She couldn't wait to see their faces; the handsome looks on Emery and Michael's features when she finally arrived, how the streets of Night Haven would suddenly come alive with laughter and spark like a flame with familial bonding. As though nothing had gone on since their return to the shores of this country. As though all had been right all along, and time or stubbornness was never an issue.
Their scent grew until it overpowered even her own, and she knew it would not be long...
_____
Malcolm escorted Rylan from their own wagon when they came to a halt. He had whispered something into the boy's ear -- likely forgetting with an absent mind where exactly they were, and how many could hear the inkling of a whisper from miles away -- then kissed the child's cheek before resuming his position by the door of his Queen's carriage. He knocked politely. Pale knuckles rapping at the wooden frame, before tucking his hands neatly behind his back.
She emerged like a love struck child; filled with wide-eyed awe and wonder at the establishment before her. It was her first time seeing it with her own eyes and not through the extended gaze of those that wandered those cobbled roads, or her grandson's. Her first time outside of Thirst, bathing in the muffled chatter and sounds of music that filled the airway from within, soaking in the glow of Mother Moon's reflection off the large curtained window that sat at its front. It had been so enchanting that one would have never guessed it had been under siege only short months ago.
Chandra turned to Malcolm, taking the hand he had presented to her amidst her speechlessness.
"Are you ready?" "Yes, m'Queen. Always."
