lolfoundation-induced angst under the cut. this takes place within the first few weeks of the senior staff being turned into benders.
it’s very rare for gears to get emotional. one could go as far as to say it doesn’t happen at all. but here they are, with gears sobbing into his hands at his desk. he respected and admired a lot of the senior staff, so seeing them acting this way and losing all regard for human life is both frustrating and in a weird way, heartbreaking. while he remains safe and his abilities restore sense and logic to his surroundings, he can’t be in two places at once and he knows that there’s no reasoning with them.
it’s no “quiet days” scenario, but it’s the end of the foundation nonetheless.
meanwhile, iceberg is sitting there next to him, not sure what to feel. he has a very distinct sense that this is wrong, gears is supposed to remain stoic and professional and he should be the one crying. he decides to keep quiet, though. partially out of sympathy, but mostly because he’s scared of what gears could do to him as a bender.
gears eventually falls asleep, and iceberg has a gut feeling to stay instead of heading back to his own quarters.
