They stood inches apart, breathing hard, each word sharper than the last. “Why do you care so much who I’m with?” she demanded, her voice breaking despite her best effort to sound defiant. He clenched his jaw, looking anywhere but at her, but his fists trembled at his sides. “Because I can’t stand it,” he finally admitted, the words tearing out of him. She froze, shocked, her lips parted in surprise. In that heartbeat of silence, he looked up, his eyes blazing with all the things he’d tried to hide, and before either of them could think, he pulled her close, his lips crashing onto hers with a desperate intensity that left no room for doubt.

The argument was heated, his words dripping with jealousy as he accused her of being oblivious, of caring too much for others, of ignoring how he felt. She scoffed, rolling her eyes, but her voice cracked. “You think I don’t see? You think I don’t feel the same way?” She tried to push past him, but he grabbed her wrist, spinning her back toward him, their faces inches apart. Their breaths mingled, their anger still simmering, but he could see the flicker of longing in her gaze, the vulnerability she’d been hiding. With a growl, he closed the distance, capturing her lips with a fierceness that held years of repressed feelings, both of them melting into the intensity of the moment.

They were arguing so fiercely that they didn’t notice how close they’d moved, the frustration between them giving way to something else. “So you don’t care who I’m with, is that it?” he challenged, his voice thick with jealousy. Her lips quivered, torn between defiance and the truth she could no longer ignore. Before she could think, she grabbed his collar, yanking him down to her, their lips meeting in a kiss so fierce and raw that all their words disappeared, replaced by the electric charge between them. For a moment, everything they’d left unsaid found its way into that kiss, sealing a confession they could no longer deny.

The tension between them was unbearable, his eyes dark with barely-contained jealousy as he accused her of leading him on, of letting others get too close. She pushed him back, defiant, her voice trembling. “If you’d told me how you felt, maybe I wouldn’t have!” He stared at her, stunned, but in the next second, he was kissing her, his hands burying in her hair as though afraid she might slip away. Her resistance melted, her own hands clutching his shoulders, pulling him closer, their confessions mingling in the fierce press of their lips, each kiss saying everything words couldn’t.

Their voices echoed down the empty hallway, each accusation laced with jealousy and frustration. “Why does it even matter to you?” she shouted, but her heart pounded, daring him to give the answer she was so afraid to hope for. His chest rose and fell with ragged breaths, his eyes narrowing as he closed the distance. “Because I don’t want to see you with anyone else,” he ground out, and without waiting for her response, he captured her lips, his hands cupping her face as though this was the only way he could make her understand. She gasped against his mouth, her hands slipping around his neck as she kissed him back, each touch a promise neither of them could ignore anymore.

Damn i cooked up a great transfem!Grace bloodymary au when i couldnt sleep the other night and now i dont remember much of it 😭

Basically it was Grace realized on the way to Erid and started experimenting with expression and all that. And she found the fact there were no other humans around (no cultural expectations around) really freeing. Its a little sad no one is there to treat her like a girl because she wants to know what that feels like and she's still really limited in resources like available clothes. But she can be herself without consequence up here and thats SO FREEING.

But then Simon shows up. And Grace STRESSES. What will he see when he sees her? Does she go back to presenting as a man? Does she lean hardcore into femininity? She's gotta chose soon because they will be sharing a biodome and possibly a house if he lives

Simon lives. And Grace (just "Grace", she never did get around to deciding if she wanted a new first name) gets to experience being treated like a girl... but not quite the way she was expecting. When she explained to Rocky once about wanting to be treated as a girl she meant like be romanced on a date and invited to girl's night. She gets awkward sharing a bed (they had a pillow wall on the first night. Like they were 11) and flustered bathroom run ins (theres no lock on the door. There was never any need. In fact Grace had to fight Rocky for the door in the first place). He also insists on carrying heavy things for her which is ridiculous because Grace has two perfectly good arms compared to his one and managed fine before he and his chiseled abs got here

And i CANNOT REMEMBER THE REST but it involved Simon awkwardly wooing his pretty girl roommate who is slightly taller than him. Its very slow going and often times cringy. If Grace realized thats what he was doing she would say she had middle schoolers with more game than him. But then again she missed every time he turned red when she'd tell him to strip so she could check his bandages. Rocky is sick of them

‘While bats can only sense the outer shapes and textures of their targets, dolphins can peer inside theirs. If a dolphin echolocates on you, it will perceive your lungs and your skeleton. It can likely sense shrapnel in war veterans and fetuses in pregnant women. It can pick out the air-filled swim bladders that allow fish, their main prey, to control their buoyancy.

It can almost certainly tell different species apart based on the shape of those air bladders. And it can tell if a fish has something weird inside it, like a metal hook. In Hawaii, false killer whales often pluck tuna off fishing lines, and “they’ll know where the hook is inside that fish,” Aude Pacini, who studies these animals, tells me. “They can ‘see’ things that you and I would never consider unless we had an X-ray machine or an MRI scanner.”

This penetrating perception is so unusual that scientists have barely begun to consider its implications. The beaked whales, for example, are odontocetes that look dolphin-esque on the outside—but on the inside, their skulls bear a strange assortment of crests, ridges, and bumps, many of which are only found in males.

Cetacean echolocation is one of those things that boggles your mind once you really start to think about the implications. They can see each others' hearts beating fast with fear or excitement. They can see if another dolphin is healthy, or pregnant; how the fetus is doing; if they have ingested debris. Their echolocation is also incredibly precise: a bottlenose dolphin could discriminate between cilinders differing in wall thickness by just 0.23 mm (0.009 inch) from 8 meters away!! And they certainly notice when something is off.

I'm not sure if I ever shared this story before here, but in Curacao, when I was allowed to assist in a guest interaction programme, there was suddenly consternation in the pool behind us. A guest had entered the water and the dolphins were going crazy, paying no heed to the trainers anymore. The lead trainer that was with me gave the dolphins to me to watch over while she went to help. When she came back she told me what had happened. The guest that had caused so much uproar had left the water again and was asked if he had done anything to upset the dolphins. He hadn't, and he couldn't imagine what was wrong... until he mentioned he had a pacemaker. The younger dolphins in the pool had never seen someone with a pacemaker before and apparently it rocked their world.

It was such a wild experience, and offered such a cool insight into how dolphins experience their world. I'll never forget it.
