Day 3 | #CountdownToSeason4
Again, just so many Jamie and Claire scenes to choose from and I’ll try to share them all in the briefest way I possibly can.
In this episode, we see Claire settle into life in Castle Leoch as their healer. She has earned quite a reputation and some respect among the clansmen as per her profession and being Column’s guest. Besides this, Claire is still homesick and misses her life, not the physical comforts of technology, but just being in the presence of safety with the people she trusts and are comfortable with.
In all the things happening around the Castle, Claire knows there is only one person she trusts to be a friend and sometimes, voice of reason to her and that is Jamie. They continue their teasing, their banter - sometimes even crossing the line - but at the same time, they get to know each other deeper through the stories they were willing to share in the time they find themselves spending together - which was a lot!
So, here are some of my favorite scenes:
1. Claire giving Jamie flack for totally dissing Laoghaire.
Claire was making every effort being Laoghaire’s wingman but Jamie was having none of it up to a point where he was devastatingly honest about not remembering Laoghaire at all in his teenage years - which earned him a flack from Claire. But instead of being apologetic about it, Jamie has this small smirk on his face.
And to add to injury, Jamie also did this! Just look at Claire’s face. Drunk as she was, she knew what Jamie did was #savage.
2. Jamie shares that he doesn’t mind her seeing his back
I love this scene.
Of course, Jamie, ever the gentleman, had to escort drunk!Claire safely back to her surgery. But what started as a simple conversation immediately turned serious and personal when discussing about Jamie’s injury - which led him to confess this to her about other people seeing his back.
There is that friendship and trust again and with each honest admission, it just grows deeper.
Then we have this iconic eye stare aka Jamie looking for ways for Claire to touch him and give her intense longing looks
Honestly love Claire’s flush after this. I know it probably stemmed of her just missing Frank or her missing having a genuine connection with someone - which she clearly is feeling, or starting to feel, with Jamie. It might not be love but Claire knew or was probably feeling a little crush on Mr. McTavish and she knows that he is too crushing on her.
3. Jamie immediately understanding Claire’s non-verbal cues
What I love most about this scene is Jamie and Claire left their previous encounter in disarray with her teasing but when they saw each other again, unexpectedly, there were no hard feelings anymore. Claire immediately confides on her desire to leave Geillis’ which Jamie quickly picks up. They are just so in tune with the situation and each other and it just all went so smoothly.
Also, who gave Mr. McTavish a beret?! #swoon
4. The foreshadowing on this conversation. #JustGoingToLeaveThisHere 😜
To which Jamie replied, “Aye.”
I know this is about helping a kid but in my rewatch, I just had to because...well, Claire will just know how strong those fingers will be, if you know what I mean.
5. Jamie and Claire visiting the Black Kirk and Jamie just being so gone and attracted to Claire.
Aka their Second date?
Jamie definitely showed his cards to Claire in this detour. He told her how going to the Kirk was a right of passage for men which he survived, the told her he was educated, learned languages and stories despite his cultural highlander upbringing. He was trying to impress her and it was adorable. Just look at Jamie’s face! He is falling for this woman and he couldn’t be more happy to.
6. This handholding scene
Before this scene, Claire saw Jamie and Laoghaire...erm...smooch, which made her miss Frank. And then with saving Tammas and the growing rumors of her magical and miracle works, Claire was in no state to socialise - but she did, still, to get drunk. But who else would spoil her plan and take her out of her sadness than Jamie.
Jamie probably knew and felt that what Claire needed above all, in that time, was comfort - so he gave it. He approached her first, invited her to seat with him, took her hand in his and she accepted it. She need not make any decisions for herself at that time but just go with the flow in Jamie’s company. Again, Claire was starting to miss and crave a connection, an intimacy, a companionship and Jamie was more than willing to offer it.
More than that, I just find them hand holding so freeing romantic cause LOVE!
7. This two scenes that sums us their relationship in a nutshell for the next 50 years of their lives. #foreshadowing
(1) Claire and Jamie’s lives in the 18th century is shaped by the impending troubles of living when the world is still trying to settle itself. Their relationship were always about fighting what they believe in and taking risks, especially, for the sake of those they loved most.
(2) If there was an argument of how Claire and Jamie were meant to be together, this will be one of my biggest receipts. I think in the future books, Claire acknowledges that Jamie pretty much needed her since the first time they met and he made no progress in the years they’ve been together to think otherwise. Jamie was a warrior, Claire was a healer - and Jamie always need tending. Also, Jamie was never afraid of Claire taking charge and always following on her calls and suggestions. Really an advanced mind for a man in his century, perfect for his time-traveling sassenach lassie.

Untimely Resurrection - Season 2 Episode 5
I know it sounds ridiculous, but I can’t help but wondering if I’ll be any good at it. Being a mother.
Of course you will.
Well, I’m a nurse. I know how to deliver a baby, how to feed one, how to take care of one when its ill, but that’s not being a mother. I only have a vague memory of my own mother--nothing really to guide me.
What you don’t ken, you’ll learn. We’ll learn. Together.
I do love you.
I love you too mo nighean donn.
“I was born for you," I said simply, and held out my arms to him.
"Ye know," he observed, letting go at last, "you've never said it."
"Neither have you."
"I have. The day after we came. I said I wanted you more than anything."
"And I said that loving and wanting weren't necessarily the same thing," I countered.
He laughed. "Perhaps you're right, Sassenach." He smoothed the hair from my face and kissed my brow. "I wanted ye from the first I saw ye—but I loved ye when you wept in my arms and let me comfort you, that first time at Leoch."
The sun sank below the line of black pines, and the first stars of the evening came out. It was mid-November, and the evening air was cold, though the days still kept fine. Standing on the opposite side of the fence, Jamie bent his head, putting his forehead against mine.
"You first."
"No, you."
"Why?"
"I'm afraid."
"Of what, my Sassenach?" The darkness was rolling in over the fields, filling the land and rising up to meet the night. The light of the new crescent moon marked the ridges of brow and nose, crossing his face with light.
"I'm afraid if I start I shall never stop.”
He cast a glance at the horizon, where the sickle moon hung low and rising. "It's nearly winter, and the nights are long, mo duinne" He leaned across the fence, reaching and I stepped into his arms, feeling the heat of his body and the beat of his heart.
"I love you.”
I love this J&C moment because of how much Jamie admits to when he really had feelings for Claire and how in the book it's a nervous feeling for both to say how they love each other. It's such a beautiful and tender moment.
