Defense for Seamus/Lavender
Before I Begin:
I will be killed by my fellow Deamus shippers for defending this ship, HOWEVER! I will remain stubborn and ship this ship. Is it wrong for one to ship someone with more than one character? I agree the world would be a much happier place if Deamus was canon. (I’m sorry, J.K. said she was honestly going to make them a couple, but she didn’t, so I don’t count that as “officially canon”) But I honestly don’t think the world would be total hell if Lavender and Seamus got married. Hence, I ship. Just imagine and adorkable and awkward conversation between Lavender and Seamus during the Yule Ball.
Reasons for Hatred:
Most of it’s development happens off-screen
If J.K. Rowling had given development to every single ship in the entire HP-verse, the whole book will instead turn into an encyclopedia of ships with a plot mixed in. Those who ship strictly canon are honestly party-poopers. You don’t need to be mean and say we’re destroying all that our Queen had created by disregarding it and inserting our own ships and headcanons. It’s honestly insulting, and ignorant of you. And again, as stated DEAMUS SHOULD NOT BE COUNTED AS OFFICIALLY CANON. As much as I honestly would like it to be, it shouldn’t be counted as canon unless J.K. Rowling writes a limited edition version of the whole Harry Potter series wherein Dean and Seamus get together at the end, it is not canon.
Interferes with a potential gay couple (namely, Seamus/Dean)
Let me first introduce to you a ship from a different fandom:
Please remember this ship for it will come up again. (And I am sure someone will put this as a most hated ship on this blog, so I will come back and defend it later) Enjonine is a ship from the Les Mis fandom between Enjolras, the stone-faced leader of the revolution who is practically made of marble, and Eponine Thenardier, the daughter of the leader of the most feared gang in the streets of Paris, the patron minette and who is madly in love with Marius, Enjolras’s fellow revolutionary.
Now why did I bring them up? Because they are hated by the fandom for the exact same reason Seavender is hated for by this fandom.
Enjonine interferes with the potential gay couple of Enjolras and his drunk partner in crime Grantaire.
Now for shipping Enjonine, we are called bigoted and homophobic. So may I say: HOLY HELL. JUST BECAUSE WE SHIP A HETEROSEXUAL SHIP OVER ITS HOMOSEXUAL COUNTERPART (which is honestly not true with me and Deamus vs Seavender. Deamus can lead to rainbows and happiness) WE ARE NOT HOMOPHOBIC.
So basically, with this reasoning, you are saying we shippers are homophobic. We do not hate gay people. We do not fear them. We do not do the things homophobic people do (by definition.)
Lavender died in the battle of Hogwarts in movie canon.
Remember when I said Enjonine would be coming up again? Well, here it is: Eponine dies in canon. So does Enjolras, but that’s besides the point. But is it wrong to have headcanons or alternate universes? HOLY HELL MOST FANFICTIONS ARE NOT CANON SO LET IT GO.
Also MOVIE CANON. This being said, even though movie canon and book canon are both considered canon, we still have the book-verse on our side. And that is more canon-y than movie-verse.
Lavender’s a bitch to Hermione and doesn’t deserve anyone as sweet and as Irish as Seamus Finnigan. (Not really a reason listed, but people say this too.)
One, you guys got your revenge when she was attacked (and in canon killed) by Greyback. If you need more than that, you guys must be sadistic because Lavender’s main offense was stealing Ron and disrupting Romione hopes. She eventually lost him to her anyway. Also she may have teased Hermione, but that’s s little harsh don’t you think?
Two, Seamus was honestly an ass to Harry. Sure he was just defending his mother, but still. He threw the metaphorical first punch and he insulted him and refused to believe Harry for majority of the school year.
In Conclusion:
Seamus and Lavender shouldn’t be hated. No ships should be hated. Hating ships is stupid and just because a ship disrupts your ship, that gives you the right to call that ship’s shippers stupid and ignorant. Your hatred of the ship makes you ignorant and closed-minded. Holy hell.
