Oc kiss week day two!
Today Jenn got to smooch Jane that belongs to the lovely @dragonie <3
Due to a fortunate series of events today I drew Jane and Ulysses for @dragonie because I love her and I also love them both so much!
For Nat, per request! Ezra, @dragonie's Jane, and @datura-tea's Moz 💖
Out of all the DLCs Dead Money is by far the most traumatic for Jane aksdh Honest Hearts brings up some bad memories and also some good and she spends most of Old World Blues disassociating/convinced she’s having some kind of fever dream/in a vague state of “this might as well happen”. Lonesome Road she’s driven by a sense of kinship with Ulysses/trying to find out what’s going on with him and why he;’s angry with her, and she’s in full control throughout. But Dead Money is not only extremely stressful and traumatising - trapped in corridors of poisonous cloud and twisted nearly-immortal once-humans, with a bomb collar around your neck that can get set off accidentally very easy, a madman has the remote and complete control over your life, the lack of sleep, the dawning horror of the ghost people and vera’s ghost wandering the halls still crying out, the sheer panic when the collar starts beeping...it hits into a lot of her most deeply-held fears of enslavement, loss of agency, being trapped after Dead Money she moves out from the Lucky 38 Suite - she never liked the Strip much anyway - and out to the peaceful wide open quiet of Wolfhorn Ranch. she’s had enough of old casinos filled with ghosts for one lifetime
Rough doodle of @datura-tea‘s Moz and Jane smoochin for OC Kiss Week! Love these sweet gorls :3c
For the courier asks - 1, 3, 7, 13, 19, 25. We only do odd numbers here. Also pick a free one 🤠
1. which faction did they side with (NCR, legion, yes-man, or house)?
Original timeline she sort of fell into siding NCR just by picking every “hell YEAH i want to fight the legion” option ghgvhgv her Big Life Goals were always 1) rebuild the Twin Mothers and 2) destroy the Legion. and the NCR are also fighting the Legion so, alliance of mutual interest, enemy of my enemy, and all that. there is an alternate ending where she goes independent but it’s largely similar, still mostly assisting the NCR but with a secondary plan to keep them from fully taking control of the region.
(broadly, she’s pro-independence of communities like freeside, westside, goodsprings, etc., but to her mind they come second to the whole “stopping Caesar” thing. she also has no interest in taking over vegas herself (though she’d work to assist another courier in doing it if they were good friends/partners), despises the omertas, and doesn’t care much for the chairmen or white gloves either)
3. melee, guns, energy weapons, or unarmed?
guns guns guns her build was much too squishy for melee or unarmed lmao
7. favorite companions? least favorite companions?
answered here!
13. how did they deal with benny?
answered here!
19. what is their motive for taking vegas?
she doesn’t, is the thing. in her own solo canon, her goal is always to one day rebuild the Twin Mothers. she has no interest in ruling vegas and doesn’t even like staying there that much. she cares about the people of vegas (well, most of them, anyway), but they’re not her people, not like the Mothers are; it’s not her home, so she keeps on wandering.
(she’ll find it, eventually. just, not here)
In the Furies AU with @datura-tea it’s a bit different because she gets more personally involved with the community, through Moz and through their gang, and makes something of a home there. but also, she’s not The Courier there, with the weight of Hoover Dam on her shoulders
25. what were their parents like? are they still on good terms with their parents?
Her mother was a bold but warm woman, a herder of sheep and cattle, and it was she who taught Jane courage, and to stand up for what is right. (she also gave her the gift of Animal Friend; it runs in the family). Her father was a weaver, a gentle and thoughtful man, and it was he who taught Jane to weigh everything carefully, and think before she acts.
She was on very good terms with her parents, although for most of the game story and beyond she believes them to be long-dead. In the post-game, she is tearfully reunited with her mother, at long last; her father, unfortunately, she was right about.
41. do they like long journeys through the mojave, or do they prefer to travel more quickly? do they prefer using roads or travelling through the deep desert?
long journeys absolutely, with plenty of detours through the deep desert - it’s where all the interesting things are! it was considered a minor miracle among the other couriers that she somehow manages to make her runs on time.
Courier asks, 31, 32, 41, 50?
31. where do they usually sleep? do they have more than one home location? do they live with any other people?
answered here!
32. what are their favorite weapons? where did they get these weapons?
Her favourite weapon is the scoped hunting rifle, and I cannot for the life of me remember where she got her first one in-game lmaoo in the story I like to imagine that she got an old one as a gift from her mentor Velasquez, ship-of-Theseused into oblivion. perhaps even a part from that old one made it on to her new gun.
41. in conversation, are they kind? gentle? sarcastic? rude? do they speak warmly and openly with people, or are they more guarded? do they talk a lot?
The best way I’d describe it is “mild.” Warm but not open, perhaps? She’s polite and friendly in conversation but doesn’t tend to reveal much about herself, keeps her cards close to her chest, so to speak. She can keep up with the conversation if someone talks to her a lot but on her own steam she’s perfectly fine with a comfortable silence
50. what’s their happiest memory?
As a child, on a hot summer’s day, catching frogs in a cool reedy pond and presenting them proudly to her mother as she tended the herds. Her baby brother is crawling after her, she’d muddy up to the shins, and she’s smiling.
