COVID Self-Test Kit Essentials: What You Need to Know

COVID-19 has already passed and is now under control in accordance with WHO. But it does not mean that it is not there. How to use a self-test kit?

A self-test or a home test is the easiest and fastest way to determine COVID-19. You can get kits like this from any pharmacy, clinic, or online retailer. After contacting someone who has contracted COVID, you can use a self-test 5 to 7 days after to check for the disease regardless of your vaccination status.

Make sure you have not eaten anything 30 minutes before taking the test. If you have a piercing remove it and wash your hands or sanitize them before using the kit.  Note that the equipment is not reusable after using it once. Here are the steps to follow to do a self-test by you:

Twist the extraction buffer sachet and pour the fluid into the extraction tube.

Close the cap and place the tube in the holder.

Blow your nose before taking the swab from the nose and make sure not to touch the soft part of the swab.

Take the swab sample from the back of the mouth where tonsillitis resides and then swab your nose with the same swab on both nostrils.

Ensure the swab does not touch anything other than the inside of your mouth and the nose.

Take the swab and immerse it in the fluid inside the extraction tube.

Mix thoroughly both the swab and liquid and put two drops on the test strip indicated as S.

Wait for 30 minutes till the process is complete.

If you have a single line along the C then the result is negative. If it has 2 lines then along the C and T, it is positive and you have COVID. If a singular line is seen below T then the result is invalid and you need to retake the test.

So in this way, an individual can test for COVID-19 at home with a self-test kit. Remember to read the guidelines and follow them properly without any errors. Sanitize your hands and test place before starting the test. Take swabs accordingly and in a correct manner. A mistake made while testing can make your result invalid and needs to redo the test with another new kit. If you have contracted COVID follow the necessary precautions and steps to minimalize the disease and keep a healthy 6 feet distance from others.
