Words about SPECTACLE
Arts writer Grace Slonim has written an essay to accompany my current exhibition ‘Spectacle’ - a video installation of a 3D hologram tree spinning gently through a garden. Along with being about how pretty holograms are and how they look like little portals into a fairytale land, ‘Spectacle’ is also about landscape. About how the act of looking is not as simple as it seems. In her essay, Slonim discusses ’Spectacle’ in relation to colonialism, traditional australian landscape painting and constructed perspectives. Read all about it here
Ive, Sarah, Ben, David and Marta took a trip to Cowwarr in July to do some drawing at the Cowwarr Art Space. Sarah went up early to run comics workshops with kids, and then we spent a great weekend in town drawing, hanging out and opening our exhibition Squishface & Fraser (a joint exhibition with printmaker Sue Fraser).
We had a fantastic time. If you think you might like to visit the Art Space or maybe even tee yourself up a residency there, go here for more info.
Check out other amusing clips over at the Squishface YouTube channel.
Here's a nice video essay put together by Rachael Lucas, intrepid ABC Gippsland reporter! It's about the Squishface + Fraser exhibition we're in at the Cowwarr Art Space. Check it out! Ben says intelligent things about comics!
