I made the tubes 3-5/16 in. long.  Glad to help out another drum builder with their work.  All lugs come with all you need to mount the lugs to your snare (washers, gasket, screw and wrench).

Since I have some decent experience with finishing wood, I knew that for my first snare build, I wanted to wrap it with wood veneer and was interested in a wood with interesting "figure".  I searched and found a place online, Certainly Wood.  They sell some veneer called Pommele Makore which is a west African species.  When the wood is simply wet it has great figure and color.  I used a product called Heat-Lock™ Veneer Glue. After adhering the veneer to the drum, it ended up taking on a "distressed" look.  I made the aluminum lugs with a 3 inch length.  Since this was my first snare, I was not ready to tackle bearing edges so I had them pre-cut by, but I did cut the snare beds myself.  I purchased most of the items for the build from Drummaker.com.  Snare turned out great and the brass snares give it a bright sound.  The S-Hoops work well for rim shots and cross-stick work.  I consider them to be a hybrid, sitting somewhere in the spectrum between a die cast and standard triple flange hoop.
