I'm either very unlucky or cursed, and I don't believe in luck.
Fjord, ruggedly hansdwome, emerging from the water : "Jester, give me a hand ?"
Jester, dreamily : "Okay... (I lift him up by his armpit)"
Fjord, without dignity now :
Yasha: Did you kill any of the children who made fun of you?
Fjord: No. I didn't have that sort of streak in me then.
This is always such a fascinating exchange to me because Fjord, you don't really have that sort of streak in you NOW.
The saddest moment in all of Critical Role is in episode 16 of Campaign 2 when Nott takes some time away from the group. She disguises herself as a halfling woman to have a normal lunch around normal people.
Nein in Hindsight: CR2E16
Few things give me more joy than Travis’ expression when Matt announces it’s his turn for a solo backstory sequence. Also, that description of the blade swallowing was somehow more horrifying to me the second time around. (2:00:30)
I would die for Nott. She put flowers in Caleb’s hair. He survived the fights relatively unscathed. Clearly she should always be putting flowers in his hair. It’s such a transparent ploy to put a little flowery braid in his hair, and I love her. (2:20:30)
Ah, the heartbreaking origins of Fjord’s missing tusks. It’s a great insight into him as a character, the insecurities written so deeply into him even from childhood. And Caleb’s “for many of us, our early days are always with us.” And Jester’s encouragement that he’d look great with or without tusks. Such a good fucking conversation, and it ends with him offering to let the group help him stop if they catch him picking at his tusks. And also this time around, Nott’s interest in whether he did anything else to modify his body as a child is an extra helping of pain on top. (2:23:15)
We will never stop terrorizing hapless NPCs. (3:01:35)
The start of Jester’s attempts to deface temples, lmao. (3:09:20)
Skein Trip Time! Also “I have bad experience with fungus.” I can’t recall anything from Caleb’s backstory related to this… I wonder if it’s a lost fact that I’ll come across later, or if it just never comes up. (3:12:00)
Molly and Beau had such a fun dynamic. Arguing, insulting each other, tripping on drugs together, having some rare sweet moments along the way, truly sibling behavior. (3:15:45)
Molly having no childhood, Beau referencing her own fucked up childhood, good times. (3:18:30)
Fuck… Nott turning herself into a halfling girl and just having a nice lunch in a cafe is 100 times more painful now, and sending a package to Felderwin… god. But also, what a bonkers package for Yeza to receive from his dead wife. Buttons, rings, a door knob, a baby bottle, ball bearings, and bracelets? I mean, you’d think for sure he’d know that was Veth, who else would send something like that, lmfao. (3:23:00)
Nott just handing off almost all her money to Caleb, and him, thanking her for teaching him the Message spell. Fucking love this scene. (3:28:30)
Pocket Bacon Origin (3:32:20)
I really appreciate the Beau and Dairon dynamic. Dairon isn’t a bullshitter. No nonsense, open about Beau’s weaknesses but not in a harsh way, praises her actions in a similarly blunt, factual way that actually comes across as believable for someone as cynical as Beau, and makes time for her. It’s so great for Beau to have a mentor who takes her seriously and offers her both approval and support. (3:35:00)
Another great moment of demonstrating the prejudices that exist in Wildemount’s culture. (3:38:55)
“It’s nice that you guys are talking about your limitations and setting your expectations before you go into this together. There’s some sort of word that you need, like a safe thing? — Tell me more about your kinky sex life with Yeza, Veth. (3:43:15)
“Father and mother… I hope I do not let you down.” Yeah, this is fucking heartbreaking with context. (3:47:50)
You can always count on Jester to ask the questions that nobody else is willing to ask, and to ask them in a disarming way that convinces people to respond positively even if it’s horribly personal. (3:52:40)
M9 find a hidden space behind a waterfall Jester and Molly: We can hide stuff in here! Metagaming Pigeon: Coo! We're never coming back here! Coo! Me, looking at the shopkeep that has a lead lined box for Jester that she never picked up: Yeah
The Mighty Nein really said “we’re gonna tell a story about identity and personal history and the ways we do or do not choose to present ourselves to the world and how our pasts affect our present” and I just think it’s neat
(this is about Fjord’s first discussion of how he chips at his tusks due to being bullied and the way all of the group members affirm whatever he wishes to do with his presentation of self)
((but specifically Nott insisting that he consider whether this is what he wants for his body or if it’s only a result of his bullies’ influence, which has so much weight when rewatching with hindsight))
Sometimes u just gotta stare at urself for 30 seconds after u get embarassed.
