The mythological Craig Phillips doll. It was rumored that Hasbro planned on having a contest in which ever doll (Raya or Craig Phillips) won the contest would become Jem’s new drummer in the cartoon. The rumor was completely untrue and until 2007 we never knew who this male head was. But a Supermaster head mold surfaced with “2, SM, RIO 87” written on it. So this head should have been a new head for the 1987 Glitter’n Gold Rio, to go with the new 1987 smiling Jem. In 1988 when Hasbro’s smaller Maxie doll needed a boyfriend this head was a perfect size to go with the new doll line. One of the factors that manufactured Jem dolls ended up selling off unused and rejected Holograms and Misfits, along with this unused Rio 87 head.
