im howland reeds biggest fan like do we know anything about him? no! but he lives in a bog and spent a year on a freaky spiritual retreat that no one else has ever gone on and then promptly killed the greatest swordsman in the kingdom! like rock on little dude! (he’s like 50 something)

Food Based Crannogmen World Building Ideas

Moomin aka wild rice Using duckfat for cooking sometimes Duck meat in general Duck or rabbit confit** "Fishing" for brackish and fresh water crustaceans Smoking fish using peat Lizard lion sausage (might have snake, rabbit boar in it as well) A sort of a moomin dirty rice (which is basically cook up meat and veg then dump in already cooked rice think of it as like fried rice) If lizard lions meat is like gator meat: The tender meat is the tail, jaw, back strap, and flank The meat that needs beating etc is the whole neck, and the legs I was very little the last only time I had gator and yeah the old joke "it tastes like chicken" does apply but the texture is different can't say how just that it was different enough I did not want more. Also their fat is not good for cooking why idk just isn't.

**confit isn't just a fancy french menu item it's an old way of preserving meat in fat with sealed crockery and also a way of cooking salt cured meat into something tender

PS wild boars can swim as well as feral hogs and they can interbreed irl so who's to say during some period of strife somebody's pigs got loose now there's razorbacks in Westeros.... Collared peccaries are known to live in wetlands sometimes and they're a cousin to boars sorta as suines.

I love the theory that the people of the crannogs practice equal primogeniture, based on nothing but the fact that Meera is announced first followed by Jojen when they arrive at Winterfell. So possibly, Meera might be the heir to her father, Howland Reed, despite Howland having a son (who is younger than his sister).

The Crannogmen are already othered by the rest of the Northerners for their poorer living conditions and unusual diet. But perhaps their cultural practices concerning laws of succession are different too.
