Ah, mobile games. That thing that people liked before it turned into a race of which developer scammed their customers faster. Even worse, google play came along and offered devs a quick and easy way to publish their crappy games. Lets look up a few reasons why mobile gaming is dead...
#1: Microtransactions! All your money are belong to us! Most, if not all free games have dozens of microtransactions, rather than making the game paid, they decide to keep the money rolling by making it much harder to do anything without paying. Need more in game cash? just give us all your money. These aren’t one time payments, even if you literally pay over 50 dollars you’ll eventually run out of cash, or “energy”, or whatever the hell you bought so that you can give them all your money. again. No wait, there’s more. Game devs decided begging for money in free games is not enough, so now there are microtransactions in paid games such as adventure time card wars, which has a goddamn ENERGY system, because me buying the game is not enough. What a joke.
#2: Advertisements! We obviously profit alot from microtransactions, so lets add tons of ads for even more money! You’d think advertisements are not a big deal, but this is quickly starting to get out of hand. I tried downloading a small minigame a few days ago, it prompted me with an ad that covered half the screen, then another popup ad right after, then an ad in the bottom of the screen that I can’t close. And what’s the consequence for putting a crapton of ads? Nothing, just lots of money. Thanks, devs.
#3: No quality control. There’s all kind of crappy crap that you can find on google play, and lemme tell ya, it’s getting worse. from minecraft clones, to clickbait apps like the simulator laser (which kids download and then complain that it doesnt work) to apps that are LITERALLY ROBBING YOU like “Build battle: mini game”, which is a paid game that gets its screenshots from a minecraft server, and doesn’t even look anywhere like it. This is number 7 in the new paid games page of google play. Google has proved to everyone that it gives fuck all about scamming, the guy that uploaded this scam, called “best apps 2015″ has NINE “GAMES” UPLOADED. NINE GAMES. all of which are scams and get shit reviews, I’ve reported them but obviously google doesn’t care, this is as bad as steam greenlight, but except for voting the game, kids are getting scammed. Nine games, none of which google has even bothered to remove. Thanks, google. Google might not be a bad company, but it’s obvious they don’t care about google play at all.
#4: Privacy invading apps? Tons of apps now have absurd requirements they obviously don’t need. And that goes to the most popular of games from top developers, too. (Example), why would this game need to look through my call info? There are much worse examples, but I’m too lazy. There are tons of these privacy invading stuff everywhere, not just mobiles. Still, it’s worth pointing out that you basically agree for applications to look through your stuff. But I’ll talk more about that later.
All in all, mobile gaming sucks. Everything is simply there only to suck your money, not to deliver a good product. This doesn’t mean every game is awful cash grab, but the majority of it. I’m getting tired of this that the most of my time on android goes to my gameboy advanced emulator (which is a great application that isn’t a cash grab made to run great games that aren’t cash grabs! win!). Still, there are good hidden gems in google play, like zenonia 2. Thanks for eading.
