Guys, its my blog birthday tomorrow!!!! :D
So, like this if you wanna celebrate a little with me tomorow! (aka some follow forever or sumthin)
In The Attic.
*This is a story I wrote a while ago, its all in one now. Enjoy! :)*
1
He always found himself in the attic; from the moment his dad, newly found step mum, and him, had all moved into the old townhouse, he had to escape. Over the years, he repeatedly ended up in the attic.
In the end, it had become his room, since his little brother was born, and got his old room.
He never really asked for much since his mum moved out, and just did what he was told. He didn’t feel like he belonged in that strange family living in that strange house.
Only the attic was where he was at home. It reminded him of his mother’s art studio, back at his old house, when his parents were still together. When he was happy, and safe.
'At least they are happy though, both of them,' he always told himself. It was just he had no one in this new place, all of his old friends had lost contact with him.
So, she had come to him.
She was weird, weirder than himself, but he liked her that way better. They always went around together, as a pair, a set. “The Strange Set”. But despite the teasing, he was happy.
But for her it was a different story. She was forever telling him how she never feels like she belonged. That she felt so useless and stupid. And defenceless. He knew that there was more than she let on, she just wouldn’t bother him. Even though the two of them would talk and share books and music, and play his video games; her mood or even personality was unpredictable. For her only friend, he still really didn’t know much about her.
He knew that her parents were business owners, so she had grown up with her grandmother razing her. She had a few old fashioned habits, but for some reason, they were so much more different from her nan’s pesky “must-dos.” It was like she was almost from a different time. Mystical.
But it was too good to last; his dad and step mum were fighting. It was just like last time. He always found himself in the attic. And then not at school.
It wasn’t a surprise when she opened his bedroom door, (she knew where the spare key was hidden,) but when she flung her arms around him, sobbing; he was surprised. Through her sobs, he heard her say something like, “it was all her fault and she was so sorry for everything.” For a moment, he was stunned.
However, the real shock was when she started to glow.
Glow. There was a brilliant indigo blue, encasing her. It took him a minute to overcome it enough to just get out a few words. “Fae, y-your glowing” he whispered.
2
She lifted her head up. All of a sudden, it stopped. Then it was like it didn’t happen. The thought of it died down to almost nothing, like a haze. “I-I I’m s-sorry” Fae sobbed, collapsing on his bed; taking him with her. And before he could ask her anything more, she was crying into his chest.
“Fae, it’s not your fault. It is just my parents having a little row. Fae, Fae what is it, tell me?”
“I made it happen.” Her sobbing had become little snuffelly hics. “I wished that I had someone lonely, who felt that they didn’t belong, so I wouldn’t have to be the guardian any more. At fifty it falls. And you fall with it, Aaron!”
“What do you mean?!” Aaron asked, clearly confused.
“I told them I need help. So they bewitched your mother, told her to argue with your dad, encouraged her run, and made her into one of us. When your dad got married, he was made to move here.
But I didn’t know, until last night, I saw what happened to them, in my dreams. Aaron, I-I am sorry.”
Aaron looked at her.
“Are you going crazy?! Fae, you couldn’t hurt a fly! It’s not your fault.”
‘Why couldn’t she see!’ he thought. She looked at him, with what seemed like anger under upset, in her eyes. Like a spark. No more of a glow.
“Fae-” then it dawned on him. Aaron shot up. “Wha- bu- you; m-my mum? I- what are you?”
“There are these things, called shadows.” She continued, nervously, “I don’t what they are exactly, but they need something from the lonely or just themselves in the first place. They are dangerous though; they have to be controlled, or they get out of hand. They each need a guardian, who is bound to it for fifty years and has to guide the lonely to their shadow. At least fifty have to be taken. You were meant to be my last one.”
Aaron was speechless. His confusion and concern turned to fear. He moved further away from her, it; he didn’t even know what to think anymore. “You’re going to kill me Fae, aren’t you?” his lip trembled.
“Fae, Fae you can’t”
3
She looked at him. Her dark blue eyes were sparkling with pain and she was glowing. He realised, she was always glowing, and it was just hidden.
But, he saw her as what she said she was. A strange girl who must have been over fifty years old, wanting to take him and feed him to a ‘shadow’.
"What you did to my mum, I- How could you!!?" Aaron chest filled with anger, "Fae I trusted you with my life and now you tell me that all of the time you wanted to kill me?!" His voice broke a little when he finished his sentence.
Fae sat up straight, spilling back her thick fringe; which framed her face with a black ring, rather than covering it. She was still upset; he could see it in her eyes. But she straightened herself and managed to say an almost clear sentence.
”Aaron I will never hurt you, I came to say, to-.” She took in a deep breath, “to say goodbye.”
It was Aaron’s turn to be upset. “Goodbye to me?!” he cried out, “why Fae? Please, please make sense, why me?”
"Aaron, I can never hurt you. I need help because I didn’t want to go. But meeting you made me realise the reason that the shadows are still here is that the sacrifices are not enough. If I go with the shadow it won’t come back; the sooner I leave the better.
I’ve learnt that the sacrifices and risks we make, leads us to new hope in life.”
Fae stepped up to him, so Aaron could see every shade of purple in her enchanting eyes.
Then she breathed, “Or just a new hope for the ones that we love” Fae leaned up close to his face, and then placed a kiss on his cheek.
Aaron’s heart was going, it was all too much to take in, and he felt as if every emotion possible had chosen now to attack him.
Aaron felt like he was the one glowing now. But he obviously couldn’t beat Fae, she was now shinning like a neon sign in every large city.
But her aura was expanding. It was starting to form a shape.
” Fae, you came to say goodbye. But if you leave how will I ever have hope? I don’t even know how to be without you. I thought you were trying to kill me! And I felt like everything was falling apart. I-I still don’t know you, or who you are, or just why! I feel like I am falling apart.”
Fae stepped towards the door, “I don’t know why Aaron.” She took one more step, but turned back to him.
She hugged him, and then she started to say things about herself; like how her nan’s was actually her mum, and is confused just like his own mother, and her favourite pass time is board games and how she was never allowed to school until he came, and the fact that she never wanted to give a single person to the ‘shadow’ and she always felt guilty, and was disgraced by herself.
“I wanted to be free, I never grew older, but neither did my thoughts, I wanted to have my 16th birthday, I thought that the sacrifices meant I could be free, but I would never be free.” Fae looked at him again; as if saying ‘did that answer the question?’
He took another look at her. He thought that the glowing was shock. Fae’s blurred shape was forming a black line. “But what is-“
“Every guardian has a form to stay young.” Fae’s shape out line was curling, like an old gate in front of an old house, around the slowly solidifying indigo.
She took in a breath, and the final shape was clear. Aaron didn’t know what to say, but Fae simply said, “I am a fairy”
Aaron stood there in some kind of shock. Fae’s voice echoed in his head, “I’m a fairy, I’m a fairy.” It was a hard concept to reach, how it was possible. But with everything else, it was so messed up, and those wings were so real, it almost made sense.
"Aaron, I have to go…" Fae breathed,
Her voice was thin and ringing, it seemed less solid, like a wispy cloud at sunset.
“But, Fae no…”
She was backing towards the corner of the room, right by the window.
“There’s got to be more! You can’t go, no!”
“I have to”
“Then take me with you, there’s nothing here for me without you”
She blew towards him. It touched him on the forehead, leaving something behind, that could not be seen or touched. “..Magic?” he thought.
"Find your mother. You’ll know what to do." She looked him straight into his eyes, and through his heart. “And, tell her I am sorry”
Fae’s wings blurred, as well as something else behind her.
“I am sorry,” her voice was fading, though it still had a floating enhancement to it. The window now had a black, oozing mist, covering it. It was pulling her in.
“FAE!” Aaron shouted, trying to reach her, but he couldn’t move.
“Goodbye, Aaron”
“Wait!”
But Aaron was too late. The only thing that was left was a violet light, dimming into a centre.
And she was gone.
