Favorite genre to write in? Historical fantasy, or alternate-history.
Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had? Ugh, so many. When plotting, I think Leigh Bardugo put it best; at one of her panels, she said you have to figure out if the spaghetti will stick. Basically, the comparison is that you’re throwing spaghetti at a wall while plotting. Most of the time, it’s gonna slide down because it’s flimsy or won’t make sense. In dishearteningly rare occurrences, it will stick.
Back to the point, I think my worst story idea involved an amateur teenage film crew that accidentally discovers some conspiracy…all very basic and dull.
How did writing change you? I didn’t start seriously writing until just about 1.5/2 years ago, although I remember saying I wanted to be an author in elementary school. I got interested in other things shortly after and sort of forgot about it, but when the book series Heroes of Olympus ended, I was really sad, because the characters and story I’d grown up alongside was over. But then I realized how amazed I was that words on pages had meant so much to me, and I realized how badly I wanted to make something like that someday. Obviously I still have so much left to learn, but from my writing experience so far, I’ve definitely gained a hobby that will always be with me, which means a lot, since I’ve been moving so much during this time in my life. It’s something constant and 100% engaging, and I get a real joy and purpose (and frustration) from making these characters and worlds.
