KARA WALKER DOMINO SUGAR FACTORY

We finally made it to Kara Walker’s Installation at the Domino Sugar Factory in Brooklyn. The exhibit was mind blowing - from it's stature, to it's overwhelming, beautiful conceptual execution. Very unexpected was the nauseating smell of burnt sugar that permeated the hot factory.

The lines were long - but hey, we waited till the last day so we expected it. Surprisingly, the slow walk from 8th street to 1st was anything but boring - each street coveting a some great public art - there were murals, a yarn bomb from Oleck...you get the drift.

Walker has confected: The Subtlety or the Marvelous Sugar Baby an Homage to the unpaid and overworked Artisans who have refined our Sweet tastes from the cane fields to the Kitchens of the New World on the Occasion of the demolition of the Domino Sugar Refining Plant."
