"I understand my own nature. Good and evil have nothing to do with it!"
GENE(VIEVE) SAADI
BACKGROUND
Genevieve comes from an insanely wealthy family crude oil business in Tehran. His birth father left when he was around eleven months old and through his child- and teenagehood he's cycled through different father figures. Generally, he was given the Rapunzel treatment. Gene was forcefully cooped up in the house all day--not that he didn't have a lot of breathing room--but he would be chided for even /suggesting/ a teenager step foot outside without supervision. You know, what if he was kidnapped? Or murdered? Or... or.
Gene suffered from perpetual boredom very young. At some point, you run out of things to do and begin to go to extreme measures- particularly in your pre-teen years. Sneak out the window when his parents were out doing God knows what, slide into the seedy underbelly of north-central Iran, meet not-so-nice people. Get back inside before they did. Repeat. It was simple.
BULLWORTH?
Until he got caught. To be fair, he kept it up for an impressive amount of years.
Since Genevieve 'wanted to be like the common people' so bad, he'd become one of the common people.
Despite this, his mother obviously still wanted the best for her incredibly sheltered child. Under the guise of The American Dream (and the fact that America just looooves its crude oil...), she assumed all of their schools were just as good as one another. Particularly the boarding schools.
Even though she chose to do it she still cried when Gene was being sent away. Because, what if he gets kidnapped? Or murdered? Well! Little did she know that's not entirely impossible at Bullworth Academy.
TRAITS
The Jester archetype.
Genevieve is hot and cold, to put it lightly. Undiagnosed type two bipolar and a horrific aversion to long-term social interaction don't mix very well. At first glance, Gene (in a neutral period) could seem energetic; pleased to meet you, losing his voice after a day because he talked 'til his throat was hoarse. After a week of this, he'll start to completely ignore you for as long as he can help it. Maybe he has a desire to reach out, sure, but by the time that happens it's already past the 6 month mark.
No matter if he's having an episode or not, Gene cannot plan long-term-- and he doesn't want to. He chases short bursts of pleasure, anything he can find, and latches onto the high like ivy on brick. Genevieve doesn't care if it doesn't last. Humans were meant to chase pleasure their whole lives! Why deny a natural instinct?
In his frequent depressive episodes, Gene is more irritable if anything. He tends not to voice these thoughts out loud but he'll push and shove and grumble as much as he can without getting into a fight. Besides this, Gene's limbs will be constantly physically fatigued, even moreso under pressure or strain. Because of this, he opts to sleep for days on end and ignore his hygiene or duties instead. The inability to make beneficial long-term decisions and the constant truancy leads to extraordinarily awful grades.
On the flipside, hypomanic episodes make everything for Gene 'high'. They're not as often, nor as long, but he'll throw himself into catching up to studies, neglect his supposed 'sleep schedule' (that never existed in the first place), and plan big schemes to improve his future that are too ambitious to ever realistically do. In these episodes Genevieve is much more confrontational than he is during depressive and euthymic episodes, but it's usually a very quick-paced telling off before going silent when asked to repeat it.
HOBBIES
Poetry (read Alexander Pope once and could feel the pretentiousness enveloping him), embroidery, the pedal harp, illustrative art, debating (arguing with strangers), sudoku, collecting (stealing useless items from the Preps).
(LEAST) FAVOURITES
♡ Virginia Woolf... He's probably her number one fan at this point.
♡ Contemporary art (#1 defender).
♡ Rats, mice, generally 'dirty' animals.
♡ Politics.
× Flashing lights + loud noises.
× Multitasking/deadlines.
× Lists + plans.
× Repairing broken items.
HABITS/SPEECH
Gene is practically addicted to wittling at his bottom lip with his teeth. He likes the swollen sensation- the bloom of warmth and the taste of iron. There are constant sores. He never lets them heal.
His face feels 'un-right in his own skin' (according to himself) and he tends to shift his muscles to try to make it fit more efficiently -- especially his eyebrows and his chin. He's been accused of doing drugs on more than one occasion.
^ Genevieve also usually just naturally raises his brow most of the time because it gives him that 'right' feeling without the effort of moving each one.
Gene skips breakfast because 'he doesn't have time' (really, he'd just rather lie in bed for another hour or work on some new hobby he'll give up in a day). If he's feeling 'uneasy' he'll skip lunch too.
There's a rumour that he's a hermaphrodite. He is not a hermaphrodite.
Gene tends to speak very quickly, paired with a slight lisp on his 's'' and a pretty high-pitched voice. He also struggles to control his volume due to being more than a little socially inept from the severe isolation. If you ask him to slow or quiet down he'll just look at you like you pulled out a gun.

RELATIONSHIPS
KAMRAN SAADI
Well, how the fuck would he know?
Gene generally feels completely apathetic towards his father. He doesn't believe he was very affected by his absence (especially with the presence of other men to fill it). He probably was.
ZAHRA SAADI
Oh Zahra, Gene will never form a solid opinion on you.
Some part of him still feels as though he owes it to his mother and his mother only for even having the privilege to be born, even if he never got to experience any of it. Not really. She only meant the best, after all. Genevieve still clings onto an idealized version of his mother and scrambles to rationalize every single memory that suddenly comes back to him every now and then. He can't stand the idea of Zahra not missing him- and she does. Just not for the reasons he might have hoped for.
THEA AMBER ELLIS
Gene considers Thea a friend! He admires her initial determination to offer support to him, even though he was a little bit of a pain in the ass and isolated himself through a depressive episode again. God knows as soon as he was feeling a little more like himself Genevieve was CHASING her down to talk to her amen. #Oomfs
CHARLES TUCKER
Despite still holding a little bit of a grudge towards Charles for earlier comments, Gene generally believes them to be on friendly terms (Charles just doesn't know it yet. and he won't know for another year and a half). He sees him around Harrington House often, but no matter how many times he tries to hold eye contact, he never really seems to catch it.
