“The Lighthouse And The Ocean“

Off the coast of Baltimore, Maryland on a small hill near the shores, stood a lighthouse that looked out beyond the sea. The ocean was going back-and-forth upon the shores, splashing against the boulders near on the sand. 

One day, out of curiosity the ocean asked the lighthouse,

“Lighthouse, why do you stand on the shores, instead of being in the sea with me? Are you afraid of getting soaked?”



The Lighthouse replied, “No, I’m not afraid of getting wet. For I was not designed to be in your sea, but to be built here on dry land. There are more lighthouses that are designed to be in the sea, which is why they’re out there and other lighthouses like me are here on dry land.”

“Are they?“ The ocean asked. The Lighthouse replied, “Yes. Man has built a few at sea when the sailors are done with their tasks, they head back to shore. But if they can’t get to shore, they seek a lighthouse in your sea until another day to continue their journey back home.”

The ocean asked, “But lighthouse, why be on land instead of the sea with me like the others?“

The Lighthouse again replied, “As I mentioned before, I was not meant to be in your sea, but to be on shore, which is why I was built on this small hill instead of the sea.”

Finally, the ocean asked, “But lighthouse, why are you called the “The Lighthouse?” What is the purpose of that name?“ The lighthouse replied to the ocean, “I remember someone saying:

“I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in the darkness, but have the light of life.“The ocean was confused at first, but then astonished and said to the lighthouse, “I remember hearing those words while I was enjoying splashing some children on the shore. It was from the book of John 8:12.“

Lighthouse says to the ocean, “Yes, that verse is from the Bible. And the person who spoke those words was Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Kings of Kings, Lord of Lords, and the Messiah.

“The God who created this world in seven days, He created you as well as the animals that live in the ocean and the animals that live on land and the skies. The one God who gave his only begotten son to die on the cross for our sins and be ascended into heaven after three days of being crucified.”

The ocean was amazed hearing this. The lighthouse continued, “The purpose of me and the others on land and in your ocean so that we use our light that would show God‘s people to find their way back home to shore, which is why we were built and given the name, “The Lighthouse.“
