Location: Valentine’s Day Charity Gala 💖

Dark eyes, hidden behind a pair of thick framed glasses, wandered around the room full of people - some who were familiar and some the man had never seen around town before. It wasn’t that he wasn’t used to mingling or being social. Hosting art shows at the gallery came with this kind of settings more often than not and it had made John exceptionally good at holding a conversation with a stranger, even if it was merely made of small talk. Yet, upon seeing so many people in gowns or suits with ties, floaty dresses and shined shoes, he couldn’t help but start shifting a little uncomfortabley. Wondering if he’d made the right choice for the night, despite how confident he’d felt leaving his apartment.

Granted, worst dressed wasn’t a description he’d ever heard about himself but the lack of a tie made him overthink now that he had a moment to himself and got lost in his observations. “Do you think I’m underdressed?” He asked a person standing nearby, a small laugh escaping him as he shook his head. “I’m sorry - that is probably a very strange question to ask and I’m not trying to fish for compliments or anything like that but...everyone looks so fancy,” the man muttered under his breath, scanning the room once again while taking a sip of his drink, only to look down at himself and back at the other person, cracking a smile.

There were plans, of course, but nothing had been set in stone. And maybe it was a bad idea. Well, no-- it was a bad idea. And Nate knew it. But he was several glasses in and pissed off at the world. And it was as if everyone in the room had parted, leaving Quinn Hawthorne in his direct line of sight.

He slid one glance to his left. Just across the room, his father mingled. Smiling and laughing as though pleasantries were his norm. He wanted to ruin it. Nate’s throat tightened, his knuckles white as they gripped the glass in his hand. His feet were moving before he could even process the thought. This was almost as public as they could get, right?

“Hawthorne,” Nate greeted loudly, with all the swagger of someone drunk and looking for a fight. He raised his glass slightly in a mocking sort of greeting. He’d catch on, Nate knew. “It seems with the venue change, the gala has also lowered its standards. Looks like they’ll let just about anyone in this place.”

Sam wasn’t the kind of person to half-ass a lot of things. Okay, maybe that was a lie. There was a lot he didn’t pull through with but when it came to occupying the bar, he truly wasn’t the kind of guy to slack. With his red wristband proudly wrapped around his arm, Sam was making his way over to get himself another glass of wine – the Casillas assortment had been a staple around his family for what felt like forever so he was sure that he could go for any kind and not be disappointed. Tapping his fingers against the countertop while he waited to be served, he looked around, yawning subtly and stretching a little when suddenly his arm bumped into what felt a little too much like another human and he couldn’t help but stifle a laugh – the alcohol in his veins already making him giggly apparently – what a night. “Oh shit!” He exclaimed, covering his mouth. “Sorry, sorry. Hand-eye coordination? A nightmare and I gotta disappoint you and say, it’s only gonna go downhill from here but hey – did I hurt you at all? Are you good?”

—Starter for @billie-davis and @annablackwood Location: The Valentine’s Day Event at the Pear B&B 

Lachlan thought the all-black ensemble looked a tad bit funereal, but Lucy had insisted on dressing him and it was either this or all-red, which... he didn’t much feel like standing out like a giant stop sign all night... Black turned out to be the better choice, regardless, because not only did it naturally compliment the outfit Leona had chosen, but it also allowed him to blend more easily into the crowd around him. 

He didn’t really have any interest in being noticed tonight. While most other single people kept making furtive glances around the room, scoping out potential partners or glaring daggers at possible rivals, Lachlan would be most happy for the night to pass with little note. Most years, he gave little thought to Valentine’s Day, buying into the spirit only because every month needed a holiday, and this just happened to be February’s... Sure, if he happened to have a girlfriend one year, he’d buy her flowers and chocolate but, like organized religion apparently, his default setting was to question society-mandated, corporately-sponsored romance. This year felt different, though. His head was still reeling from Billie’s abrupt brush-off, and it left him feeling sour in a way that didn’t have him eager to celebrate love right now. He was confused and hurt, and yeah, he was willing to admit he was even a little angry. ‘Love’ was not high up on his list of virtues. 

When he saw Billie over at the bar (standing with Anna which was.. it’s whole own can of worms he was trying his best to ignore,) his first childish instinct was to pretend he didn’t see her. He’d convinced himself that she saw him as some sort of chump and though his pride was bruised, he could prove he was beyond it. It was only at Leona’s nudging, at her gentle but pointed reminder of his own advice that he decided to buck up and talk to her.  

“Hey Billie,” he said, his words coming out more like a reluctant sigh. He spared a glance for Anna, a tight-lips smile and a raised hand for greeting. “Can I talk to you privately for a minute?”

The annual Valentine’s Day Charity Gala will take place in 2021 as planned, however with a twist. As opposed to the more formal event usually held at the Goldfinch Hotel, the organizing committee will be hosting a more relaxed one at Pear B&B. One thing remains unchanged: the event’s purpose, to focus on our love for each other as well as the town we call home. All proceeds go to helping our canine companions and feline friends at Paws Up Animal Rescue. 

If you would like to make a more generous donation, you are more than welcome to do so at the event. If not, we simply invite you to enjoy the night with a date, celebrating with your friends, or perhaps even meeting a potential new love on the dance floor. 

Complimentary appetizers will be served at various stations, as well as baked goods at the dessert table courtesy of Sweet As Sugar. Complimentary nonalcoholic beverages will be served; Hop Notch Brewery and Casillas Winery have partnered to offer a beer and wine bar with drinks on sale (unless bar ticket upgrade has been purchased). 

This year’s event is funded through ticket sales and donations, both monetary and those of our local vendors’ time and services. We extend our thanks to the planning committee, the vendors, the donors, and especially our attendees! We look forward to celebrating our love for each other and our community with you all.

The event will last for one day in-game, but it will last in real time from Friday, February 12th at 12:00 pm EST to Friday, February 19th at 12:00 pm EST

Attending the event is optional; if your character chooses to not attend, they must still comply with activity requirements.

Your character could be an attendee at the event, or there’s also the option for them to be working on the night of the event! 

Please also note that this is an event that will incorporate a plot drop; should your character not be in attendance, they would still be able to partake in the planned plot drop. 

If your character is attending the event, you have the option to continue your non-event threads or pause them during this time. If you choose the latter, whether you end your threads before the event or resume them after is up to you and your writing partners.

     He’d seen her around from time to time since he got there, catching glimpses. She looked great, obviously put much more effort in than he had to this event but he wouldn’t expect anything less. He’d caught her looking at him a few times recently though and he wasn’t sure if she wanted to talk to him or if there was something wrong so eventually he gathered up the courage to walk up to her while she was standing at the bar, clearing his throat a little so he wouldn’t startle her. ❛ You look... great, ❜ he said. Couldn’t he come up with anything better to say? Any other adjective. Great? So stupid. Max did feel a bit of stinging guilt about what had happened with Ash but it had already happened and there was nothing he could do to change it, just leave it behind. Shake it off. It hadn’t meant anything anyway. Cora didn’t need to know, even though he felt a bit bad for not telling her. There were likely more things unsaid between them than that anyway. He pressed his lips together for a moment and then turned to the side to look down at her. She felt taller, it was probably the heels. ❛ You wanna dance? I mean, for old times sake... Or do I have to fight off some hot date first? ❜ he half-joked, a soft grin playing on his lips.

Diana felt awkward. She hadn’t spoken to Quinn since their last encounter -- she had been admittedly avoiding it, and she didn’t think anyone could blame her. It was a difficult position to be in, and she wished she could simply let it be and ignore it, but she knew better. It was something that had to be a conversation, and she needed to do it for John’s sake. She approached Quinn almost timidly, water in her hand, her manicured nails tapping nervously against the side of her glass.

“Hi,” she started softly, looking up to meet his eyes. She held a halfhearted hand up in surrender, a sign of peace. “I promise it won’t be like last time. I’m sorry for that.” She swallowed once and looked away, her eyes mindlessly scanning over the crowds, not looking for anything in particular. “I don’t think we’ll ever be friends, Quinn. I think, sometimes, things break and you can’t... quite repair it. And I am only just now realizing there isn’t anything inherently wrong with that.” She nodded once, mostly to herself, before she looked back to him. “I don’t want to be your enemy either, though. John is my best friend. I’d like for things to be easy for him.”
