March 23, 2018 - Marañon Crescentchest (Melanopareia maranonica)

These crescentchests are found only in the Marañón Valley in southern Ecuador and northern Peru. Their diet has not been studied, but is thought to be mostly insects and possibly some seeds and other plant foods. They mostly forage on the ground, alone or in pairs. Though none of their nests have been observed, they are thought to be cup-shaped and built near the ground, like those of closely related species.

October 7, 2016 - Olive-crowned Crescentchest (Melanopareia maximiliani)

These crescentchests are found in Bolivia, Argentina, and Paraguay. Though their diet is not well known, they have been observed foraging on the ground, usually alone or in pairs. Nesting in grasses or low shrubs, they build cups of plant fibers and palm fronds. There are two distinct populations with different song types, which may be separate species.
